In addition to disciplinary programs and drug testing, incentive programs can be misused as a form of retaliation against an employee for reporting a workplace injury or illness. Incentive programs aim to encourage safe workplace practices and may include workers participating in safety-related or training activities. Compliance with legitimate workplace safety rules, hazard walkthroughs, conformance to maintenance scheduling, reporting of incidents as well as health and safety training are all aspects of incentive programs which may, in turn, be used against employees.
