Processed foods have been shown to contain high amount of sugars and salt, therefore, care should be taken when consuming processed foods.

Processed foods are foods which have gone through additional modifications to get to their final state.

Additives such as sugars and preservatives are added to processed foods to make them sweeter and to last longer.

Processed foods include foods such as:

  • baked foods
  • pasta
  • chocolates and beverages, etc.

Sugar in processed foods usually occur in the form of high fructose syrup, sucrose and maltose.

However, sugars in processed foods have being linked to diseases such as diabetes and cancer.

Therefore, care should be taken when consuming processed foods.
