However, the theory was one of many explanations for matter and wasn't based on empirical dataEverything is composed of atoms, which are the indivisible building blocks of matter and cannot be destroyed. All atoms of an element are identical. The atoms of different elements vary in size and mass. Compounds are produced through different whole-number combinations of atoms.Dalton's atomic theory suggested that the atom was indivisible and indestructible. But the discovery of two fundamental particles (electrons and protons) inside the atom, led to the failure of this aspect of Daltons atomic theory.
