When the potato is put into the distilled water, it will absorb the water. The water is trying to dilute the salt inside the potato.

What is the meaning of concentrated?

The concentration of a solution is a measure of the amount of solute that has been dissolved in a given amount of solvent or solution.

When the potato is put into the distilled water, it will absorb the water. The water is trying to dilute the salt inside the potato.

Since potatoes already contain sugar, less water will diffuse out of the potato placed in sugar water. The slice placed in water will be rigid since it will absorb water.

The number of electrons in the outermost shell of an atom determines its reactivity. Noble gases have low reactivity because they have full electron shells. Halogens are highly reactive because they readily gain an electron to fill their outermost shell

A. Gallium is produced by the electrolysis of a solution obtained by dissolving gallium oxide in concentrated NaOH(aq). Calculat
liraira [26]

Answer:

A)Mass of  gallium plated out is 0.3440 grams

B) For 0.67 hours current of 5.79 A must to be applied to plate out 8.70 g of tin.

Explanation:

To calculate the total charge, we use the equation:

C=I\times t

where,

C = Charge

I = Current in time t (seconds)

To calculate the moles of electrons, we use the equation:

\text{Moles of electrons}=\frac{C}{F}

where,

F = Faraday's constant = 96500

A) The equation for the deposition of Ga(s) from Ga(III) solution follows:

Ga^{3+}(aq.)+3e^-\rightarrow Ga(s)

I = 0.790 A, t = 30.0 min = 1800 seconds

C=I\times t

C=0.790 A\times 1800 s=1422 C

Moles of electron transferred:

=\frac{1422 C}{96500 F}=0.01474 mol

Now, to calculate the moles of gallium, we use the equation:

\text{Moles of Gallium}=\frac{\text{Moles of electrons}}{n}

n = number of electrons transferred = 3

\text{Moles of Gallium}=\frac{0.01474 mol}{3}=0.004913 mol

Mass of 0.004913 moles of gallium = 0.004913 mol × 70 g/mol=0.3440 g

B) The equation for the deposition of Sn(s) from Sn(II) solution follows:

Sn^{2+}(aq.)+2e^-\rightarrow Sn(s)

Moles of tin = \frac{8.70 g}{119 g/mol}=0.07311 mol

n = number of electrons transferred = 2

\text{Moles of tin}=\frac{\text{Moles of electrons}}{n}

Moles of electron =  n\times \text{Moles of tin}

=2\times 0.07311 mol=0.14622 mol

Charge transferred during time t :

\text{Moles of electrons}=\frac{C}{F}

C=96500 F\times 0.14622 mol=14,110.23 C

Current applied for t time = I = 5.79 A

t=\frac{C}{I}=\frac{14,110.23 C}{5.79 A}=2,437 s=0.67 hrs

For 0.67 hours current of 5.79 A must to be applied to plate out 8.70 g of tin.

The fe2+(aq) solution described in part a was produced by dissolving 4.05 g of ore in acid. what was the percentage of fe by mas
poizon [28]
Percentage by mass is the amount in mass of a component in a mixture per 100 unit of mass of the total mixture. Percentage by mass is the same as  %w/w. In order to determine this value, we need to know the mass of the  substance in question and the total mass of the sample. In this case, we have to know the mass of Fe by doing certain calculations. Then, we divide this value by the total mass given of the ore, 4.05 g and multiply by 100%. It should be expressed as follows:

Percent by mass = mass of Fe in ore / 4.05 g ore sample x 100

However, the question is lacking some information so we cannot really specify the answer.

How many moles of zinc are needed to react with 45.60 moles of nitric acid?
uranmaximum [27]

Answer:

11.4 moles

Explanation:

Your chemical equation for the reaction of zinc and nitric acid will be

Zn  +  4 HNO₃  -->  Zn(NO₃)₂  +  2 NO₂  +  2 H₂O

To solve the problem, you need to use stoichiometry.  For every 1 mole of zinc, you will need 4 moles of nitric acid.  Divide 45.60 by 4.  Your answer should be 11.4 moles.

(a) Consider a carbon atom in its ground state. Would such an atom offer a satisfactory model for the carbon of methane? If not,
viva [34]

Answer:

(a) No. Ground-state carbon has only 2 half-filled orbitals that could be used for bonding.

(b) No. The bond angles would be incorrect as the p-orbitals are all perpendicular to each other (90°).

Explanation:

See attachment for the ground-state and excited-state electron orbital diagrams of carbon.

A methane molecule has all four CH bonds the same length and at 109.5° from each other. Hybridization of the s and p orbitals to sp³ orbitals is necessary.
