A crate with a mass of 175.5 kg is suspended from the end of a uniform boom with a mass of 94.7 kg. The upper end of the boom is

supported by a cable attached to the wall and the lower end by a pivot (marked X) on the same wall.
Calculate the tension in the cable.

The tension in the cable is equal to 323.5 N.

What is the tension in the cable?

The tension, T in the cable is determined by taking moments about the pivot marked X.

The angles of the boom and the cable with the horizontal are first calculated.

Angle of the boom with horizontal, θ = tan⁻¹(5/10) = 26.56°

The angle of cable with horizontal, B = tan⁻¹(4/10) = 21.80

Taking moments about the pivot:

175.5 * cos 26.56 + 94.7 * cos 26.56 * 0.5 = T (sin(26.56 + 21.80) * 1

Tension = 241.68/0.747

Tension = 323.5 N

In conclusion, the tension in the cable helps to suspend the crate.

The wavelength (W) of a wave varies inversely as its frequency (F). A wave with a frequency of 600 kHz (kilohertz) has a leng
ratelena [41]

The wavelength of a wave varies inversely as its frequency, i.e.

W ∝ 1/F

A wave decreases its frequency from 600kHz to 300kHz, so let's calculate the scaling factor of W due to the change in F.

k = 1/(300/600) = 2

To find the new wavelength, multiply the original wavelength by k:

W = 2×129m

W = 258m

Samburu the elephant has a mass of 1650kg. If each of his feet cover an area of .25 m^2, how much pressure does samburu exert on
lidiya [134]
Samburu's weight is (mass x gravity) = (1650kg x 9.8 m/s²) = 16,170 Newtons.

Samburu's contact area with the ground is (0.25 m²/hoof) x (4 hoofs) = 1 m² .

Pressure = (force) / (area) = (16,170 Newtons) / (1 m²) = 16,170 Pascal .

A spring stores 10. joules of elastic potential
Mekhanik [1.2K]
The answer would be . Since we are looking for the spring constant you would need to use the formula
PEs = \frac{1}{2} k {x}^{2}
. Then you'd substitute, for PEs and x.
10j=1/2k(.20m^2).
Then solve. k=500n/m
