In 1656, the Burgmeister (mayor) of the town of Magdeburg, Germany, Otto Von Guericke, carried out a dramatic demonstration of t

he effect resulting from evacuating air from a container. It is the basis for this problem. Two steel hemispheres of radius 0.430 m (1.41 feet) with a rubber seal in between are placed together and air pumped out so that the pressure inside is 15.00 millibar. The atmospheric pressure outside is 940 millibar.
1. Calculate the force required to pull the two hemispheres apart. [Note: 1 millibar=100 N/m2. One atmosphere is 1013 millibar = 1.013×105 N/m2 ]
2. Two equal teams of horses, are attached to the hemispheres to pull it apart. If each horse can pull with a force of 1450N (i.e., about 326 lbs), what is the minimum number of horses required?

The values of the required solutions are

  • F= 53731 N
  • N=37.05

<h3>What is the minimum number of horses required?</h3>

What is Force?

In the field of physics, an influence that can alter the motion of an object is referred to as a force. An object having mass can experience a change in its velocity, often known as an acceleration, when subjected to a force. Intuitively, force can also be conceptualized as either a push or a pull. Because it may be measured in both magnitude and direction, a force is considered a vector quantity.

What is atmospheric pressure?

The pressure that is exerted within the atmosphere of the Earth is referred to as barometric pressure as well as atmospheric pressure. As a unit of pressure, the standard atmosphere is defined as having a value of 101,325 Pa. This value is equivalent to 1013.25 millibars, 760 mm Hg, 29.9212 inches Hg, or 14.696 psi.

In most situations, the equation for force can be expressed numerically as

Force = pressure * A

Therefore

F= (970 - 15 B)(\pi * (0.430 )^2)

F= 53731 N

In conclusion, If each horse can pull with a force of 1450N

The number of horses required is

N=\frac{60754 }{1450}

N=37.05

The ink drops have a mass m = 1.00×10^−11 kg each and leave the nozzle and travel horizontally toward the paper at velocity v =
luda_lava [24]

Answer:

9.98 × 10⁻⁹ C

Explanation:

mass, m = 1.00 × 10⁻¹¹ kg

Velocity, v = 23.0 m/s

Length of plates D₀ = 1.80 cm = 0.018 m

Magnitude of electric field, E = 8.20 × 10⁴ N/C

drop is to be deflected a distance d = 0.290 mm = 0.290 × 10⁻³ m

density of the ink drop = 1000 kg/m^3

Now,

Time = \frac{\textup{Distance}}{\textup{Velocity}}

or

Time = \frac{\textup{0.016}}{\textup{23}}

or

Time = 6.9 × 10⁻⁴ s

Now, force due to the electric field, F = q × E

where, q is the charge

Also, Force = Mass × acceleration

q × E = 1.00 × 10⁻¹¹ × a

or

a = \frac{q\times8.20\times10^4}{1\times10^{-11}}

Now from the Newton's equation of motion

d=ut+\frac{1}{2}at^2

where,

d is the distance

u is the initial speed

a is the acceleration

t is the time

or

0.290\times10^{-3}=0\times(6.9\times10^{-4})+\frac{1}{2}\times(\frac{q\times8.20\times10^4}{1\times10^{-11}})\times(6.9\times10^{-4})^2

or

q = 9.98 × 10⁻⁹ C

A bullet is fired with a muzzle velocity of 1178 ft/sec from a gun aimed at an angle of 26° above the horizontal. Find the horiz
dalvyx [7]

Answer:

1058.78 ft/sec

Explanation:

Horizontal Component of Velocity; This is the velocity of a body that act on the horizontal axis. I.e Velocity along x-axis

The horizontal velocity of a body can be calculated as shown below.\

Vh = Vcos∅.......................... Equation 1

Where Vh = horizontal component of the velocity, V = The velocity acting between the horizontal and the vertical axis, ∅ = Angle the velocity make with the horizontal.

Given: V = 1178 ft/sec, ∅ = 26°

Substitute into equation 1

Vh = 1178cos26

Vh = 1178(0.8988)

Vh = 1058.78 ft/sec

Hence the horizontal component of the velocity = 1058.78 ft/sec

What is the Scientific definition of friction?
seropon [69]
Friction<span> is the resistance to motion of one object moving relative to another. It is not a fundamental force, like gravity or electromagnetism. Instead, scientists believe it is the result of the electromagnetic attraction between charged particles in two touching surfaces.
Hope this is of great help to you, and happy studying~!
