a) As the Chlorine gas is compressed, the molecules of gas come closer to each other, and hence the density increases.

Density measures the mass of an object or substance as compared to its volume.

Density = Mass of the substance ÷ Volume of the substance

When a density of a substance increases there is an increase in the intramolecular force.

SI Unit of density:  kg/m³

Liquids are less dense than solids.

Gases are less dense than liquids.

Examples of density:

  • Air - 1.23
  • Carbon dioxide - 2
  • Water - 997
