According to the given question your car's gas tank holds 13 gallons, and you expect to get about 25 miles per gallon.

Given that you never want to run out of gas to not face this issue you always keep 1 gallon of gas in the tank.

So when you fill your tank completely you fill for 12 gallons of gas because 1 gallon is already there.

Also given that the car can go 25 miles per gallon.

So, for 12 gallons of gas you can go (25 × 12 ) miles which is

= 300 miles.

If you had to drive for more than 300 kilo meters then you need to stop for gas in first day's drive.
