Environmental influence , health habits , disease are the most common and strongly influence length of life expectancy, quality of health and incidence of chronic illness. Tobacco,exposed to smoke , poor nutrition , including diets low in fruits and vegetables and high in sodium and saturated fats.

There are some factors of chronic disease which effect , the main modification behavioral risk factors are tobacco use, alcohol use, an healthful diet and physical inactivity.

The most common risks that associated with the deaths of both men and women are high body mass index , and high fasting plasma glucose but greater cumulative impact on health comes from poor diet.

COPD, or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, pretty much says it all. In COPD the Bronchioles (the pathways of air to the Aveoli), become inflamed and are occluded by mucus, because the Cilia which are responsible for pushing it out of the tract have been damaged. Because of the narrowing, the Aveoli attempt to increase the surface area so that more oxygen can be absorbed by the lungs, however this can lead to a problem as the dead space (space that is not the aveoli and can be absorbed) is then expanded as well, which leads to shortness of breath.

How does carbon monoxide affect a smoker’s blood?

From what i heard, when carbon monoxide is in a person's blood (smoker or non smoker) it can kill you, it is a sign of poison in your blood. With smokers it is worse because they are smoking something that has a high content of carbon monoxide which can cause heart problems, lung cancer, birth defects, etc. So thats what i think
