Why is the following situation impossible? An engineer working on nuclear power makes a breakthrough so that he is able to contr

ol what daughter nuclei are created in a fission reaction. By carefully controlling the process, he is able to restrict the fission reactions to just this single possibility:the uranium-235 nucleus absorbs a slow neutron and splits into lanthanum-141 and bromine-94. Using this breakthrough, he is able to design and build a successful nuclear reactor in which only this single process occurs.

The following reaction is impossible because the reaction will only yield a single neutron which is insufficient to attain the chain reaction.

What is a fission reaction?

 • Fission reaction occurs when a neutron bangs into a larger atom where in the larger atom is forced to excite and is split into smaller atoms.
 • The two smaller atoms resulting out of the reaction are called fission products.
 • Moreover the reaction also release additional neutrons capable of initiating a chain reaction.
 • Tremendous energy is released in the reaction when each atom splits into two.
 • The above situation is impossible as only a single neutron is yielded from the reaction which cannot initiate a chain reaction.
 • Considering the situation, he cannot design the nuclear reactor.

The weight of a 72.0 kg astronaut on the Moon, where g = 1.63 m/s2 is (5 points) Select one: a. 112 N b. 117 N c. 135 N d. 156 N
Hunter-Best [27]

Answer: The weight of a 72.0 kg astronaut on the Moon is 117.36 N.

Explanation:

Mass of the astronaut on the moon , m= 72 kg

Acceleration due to gravity on moon,g = 1.63 m/s^2

According to Newton second law of motion: F = ma

This will changes to = Weight = mass × g

Weight=72 kg\times 1.63m/s^2=117.36 N

The weight of a 72.0 kg astronaut on the Moon is 117.36 N.

Suppose a photon with an energy of 1.60 eV strikes a piece of metal. If the electron that it hits loses 0.800 eV leaving the met
JulsSmile [24]

To solve this problem it is necessary to apply the concepts related to the change of Energy in photons and the conservation of energy.

From the theory we could consider that the energy change is subject to

\Delta E = E_0 -W_f

Where

E_0 =Initial Energy

W_f = Energy loses

Replacing we have that

\Delta E = 1.6-0.8

\Delta E = 0.8eV

Therefore the Kinetic energy of the electron once it has broken free of the metal surface is 0.8eV
