Taking into account the definition of density, the density if the unknown substance is 0.8345 g/mL.

Density

Density is defined as the property that matter, whether solid, liquid or gas, has to compress into a given space.

In other words, density is a quantity that allows us to measure the amount of mass in a certain volume of a substance. Then, the expression for the calculation of density is the quotient between the mass of a body and the volume it occupies:

density= mass÷ volume

Density of the unkown substance

In this case, you know that:

 • Mass= 2.42 g
 • Volume of water= 25 mL
 • Volume of water + unknown substance= 27.9 mL
 • Volume of unknown substance= Volume of water + unknown substance - Volume of water= 27.9 mL - 25 mL= 2.9 mL

Replacing in the definition of density:

density= mass÷ volume of unkown substance

density= 2.42 g÷ 2.9 mL

Solving:

density= 0.8345 g/mL

In summary, the density if the unknown substance is 0.8345 g/mL.

The force of attraction between one polar molecule and another polar molecule is
Keith_Richards [23]

Answer:

Dipole-dipole forces

Explanation:

A polar compound is that compound which contains atoms that have a difference in charges i.e electrostatic attraction occurs between its constituent atoms. Polar molecules are attracted to other polar molecules with opposite charges and her held together with the aid of certain forces

The attractive force between the negative part of a polar molecule (-) and the positive part of another polar molecule (+) is called DIPOLE-DIPOLE FORCES. This dipole-dipole force gets stronger with an increasing polarity of the molecules involved.

A sample of argon gas (molar mass 40 g) is at four times the absolute temperature of a sample of hydrogen gas (molar mass 2 g).
katen-ka-za [31]

Answer:

Ratio of Vrms of argon to Vrms of hydrogen = 0.316 : 1

Explanation:

The root-mean-square speed measures the average speed of particles in a gas, and is given by the following formula:

Vrms = \sqrt{3RT/M}

where R is molar gas constant = 8.3145 J/K.mol, T is temperature in kelvin, M is molar mass of gas in Kg/mol

For argon, M = 40/1000 Kg/mol = 0.04 Kg/mol, T = 4T , R = R

Vrms = √(3 * R *4T)/0.04 = √300RT

For hydrogen; M = 1/1000 Kg/mol = 0.001 Kg/mol, T = T, R = R

Vrms = √(3 * R *T)/0.001 = √3000RT

Ratio of Vrms of argon to that of hydrogen = √300RT / √3000RT = 0.316

Ratio of Vrms of argon to that of hydrogen = 0.316 : 1
