Scientists have discovered a colony of potential organisms on the Planet Moby and named them "Maxoids." Read the information bel

ow that scientists have gathered on Maxoids and decide whether Maxoids are living or nonliving things. Explain how you came to this conclusion.
Through testing and observation, scientists have recorded the following characteristics of Maxoids. Maxoids reproduce via sexual reproduction. One parent carries the Maxoid eggs for 12 weeks before they hatch. After hatching, juvenile Maxoids continue to grow for seven months. To acquire energy for growth, Maxoids consume a peculiar liquid substance native to the planet Moby. The Maxoids' cells use this energy, as well as large amounts of water, to carry out important functions. The Maxoids are sensitive to changes in internal temperature. Sometimes they dig holes and lay in them to cool down if they get too warm.

The Maxoids are living things because they possess the characteristics of living things.

What are living things?

Living things are things which have life in them.

Living things are identified by the characteristics which make them living.

The characteristics of living things include:

 • Movement - living things are able to move all or parts of their body
 • Respiration - living things are able to break down food substances to produce energy
 • Nutrition - living things are able to take in food substances
 • Irritability - living things are able to respond to changes around them
 • Growth - living things are able to increase in size and mass
 • Excretion - living things are able to remove waste substances from their bodies
 • Reproduction - living things are able to produce new ones of their kind

Considering the Maxoids;

 • They are able to reproduce
 • They take food in the form of a liquid substance
 • They are sensitive to changes in internal temperature

In conclusion, the Maxoids are living things.

A 3.0 g sample of a gas occupies a volume of 1.00L at 100C and 740 torr pressure. The molecular weight of the
SOVA2 [1]

Answer:

94.2 g/mol

Explanation:

Ideal Gases Law can useful to solve this

P . V = n . R . T

We need to make some conversions

740 Torr . 1 atm/ 760 Torr = 0.974 atm

100°C + 273 = 373K

Let's replace the values

0.974 atm . 1 L = n . 0.082 L.atm/ mol.K . 373K

n will determine the number of moles

(0.974 atm . 1 L) / (0.082 L.atm/ mol.K . 373K)

n = 0.032 moles

This amount is the weigh for 3 g of gas. How many grams does 1 mol weighs?

Molecular weight → g/mol → 3 g/0.032 moles = 94.2 g/mol
