Your boss tells you that she needs a decision by the end of the day about the machine you want to purchase for your new operatio

n. You have four options, and your boss reminds you to be as cost-efficient as possible but that she also wants the best efficiency. Which is your best option?
l Option 1: This $5,000 machine is supplied energy at a rate of 1,900 W and does useful work at a rate
of 1,786 W.
l Option 2: This $4,500 machine is supplied energy at a rate of 1,450 W and does useful work at a rate
of 1,300 W.
l Option 3: This $4,750 machine is supplied energy at a rate of 1950 W and does useful work at a rate
of 1833 W.
l Option 4: This $4,750 machine is supplied energy at a rate of 2,000 W and does useful work at a rate
of 1,822 W.

Explanation:

It is given that, your boss tells you that she needs a decision by the end of the day about the machine you want to purchase for your new operation.

Option 1.

This $5,000 machine is supplied energy at a rate of 1,900 W and does useful work at a rate of 1,786 W.

Efficiency=\dfrac{P_o}{P_i}\times 100

P_o\ and\ P_i is power output and power input respectively

Here, output power is 1786 W and input power is 1900 W

\eta=\dfrac{1786}{1900}\times 100=94\%

Option 2.

This $4,500 machine is supplied energy at a rate of 1,450 W and does useful work at a rate of 1,300 W.

Here, output power is 1300 W and input power is 1450 W

So,

\eta=\dfrac{1300}{1450}\times 100=89.65\%

Option 3.

This $4,750 machine is supplied energy at a rate of 1950 W and does useful work at a rate of 1833 W.

Here, output power is 1833 W and input power is 1950 W

\eta=\dfrac{1833}{1950}\times 100=94\%

Option 4.

This $4,750 machine is supplied energy at a rate of 2,000 W and does useful work at a rate of 1,822 W.

Here, output power is 1822 W and input power is 2000 W

\eta=\dfrac{1822}{2000}\times 100=91.1\%

The efficiency of machine in option (1) and (3) is same i.e. 94% but the cost of c is less and is providing maximum efficiency. Hence, the correct option is (3).

Your spaceship lands on an unknown planet. To determine the characteristics of this planet, you drop a wrench from 5.00 m above
GenaCL600 [577]

Answer:

g = 15.5 m/s²

Explanation:

In order to find the acceleration due to gravity near the surface of this planet can be calculated by using 2nd equation of motion. The 2nd equation of motion is given as:

h = Vi t + (0.5)gt²

where,

h = height covered by the wrench = 5 m

Vi = Initial Velocity = 0 m/s

t = Time Taken to hit the ground = 0.804 s

g = acceleration due to gravity near the surface of the planet = ?

Therefore,

5 m = (0 m/s)(0.804 s) + (0.5)(g)(0.804 s)²

g = (5 m)/(0.3232 s²)

<u>g = 15.5 m/s²</u>

In one or two sentences, explain design modifications which were implemented after the tacoma bridge disaster
iren [92.7K]

The modifications that are implemented after Tacoma bridge disaster are added trusses and openings below road decks to decrease oscillations.

<h3>Why Tacoma Bridge disaster occurred?</h3>

While marching, the natural frequency of the vibrations of marching soldiers matched up with the resonant frequency of the bridge. This resulted in the collapsing of the bridge in seconds.

Because of the disaster of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, the bridge was strengthened by adding trusses as well as openings below road decks so as to decrease vibrations caused by running vehicles on the bridge.

Thus, the modifications that are implemented after Tacoma bridge disaster are added trusses and openings below road decks to decrease oscillations
