Answer:

F

Explanation:

Halogens may interact with the benzene ring via inductive or resonance effects. Halogens deactivate the benzene ring by inductive effect rather than by resonance effects.

The lone pairs of electrons present on the halogen atoms may be donated to the ring by resonance, but an opposite effect, the inductive pull (-I inductive effect) of the halogen atoms on electrons away from the benzene ring due to the high electro negativity of the halogens leads to a deactivation of the ring towards electrophilic substitution.

Hence inductive electron withdrawal by the halogen atom predominates over electron donation by resonance effect and the benzene ring g is deactivated towards electrophilic substitution at the ortho and para positions.

A scientist discovers a new type of polymer. What must be true about this polymer?
mixas84 [53]

Answer: Option (D) is the correct answer.

Explanation:

A polymer is a large molecule which contains repeating units.

A polymer forms long chain of atoms which are not necessarily arranged in a ring structure. There are not only double bonds between all the carbon atoms, as there can be single bonds or triple bonds between the atoms of a polymer.

A polymer does not contain many different type of molecules as there are many repeating units and not many molecules in a polymer.

A polymer is made of large molecules with repeating units.

Thus, we can conclude that option (D) is the correct answer.

F2 + 2HCl + Cl2 + 2HF I need help what are the answers to these questions?
Anon25 [30]

In the given reaction fluorine is reduced and chlorine is oxidized.

What is oxidation and reduction?

Oxidation is a process in which addition of oxygen or removal of hydrogen and electron takes place, while reduction is a process in which addition of hydrogen & electrons or removal of oxygen takes place.

Given chemical reaction is:

F₂ + 2HCl → Cl₂ + 2HF

 • In the above reaction fluorine is reduced as it accepts an electron and increase in it its oxidation state takes from 0 to -1, which shows reduction.
 • In the reaction chlorine is oxidized as it losses an electron and decrease in its oxidation state takes from -1 to 0, which shows oxidation.
 • Oxidation half reaction is:

F₂ + 2e⁻ → 2F⁻

 • Reduction half reaction is:

2Cl⁻ → Cl₂ + 2e⁻

Hence, fluorine is reduced and chlorine is oxidized in the given reaction.
