It's a simultaneous equation:
Steps:
1.Number the equations..

a+b=77 -1
a-b=13 -2

2. Choose what variable you want to use. In this case I would use the "b". Since the signs in front of the "b's" are different, add the two equations together

a + b = 77
+ + +
a (-b) = 13

Which gives;
2a = 90

Then solve to find a:
2a=90
a= 90/2
a=45

3.Then plug the "a" value into any of the original equations to find the "b" value. I would use equation 1 since the all the variables are positive.

a + b = 77
(45) + b = 77
b=77-45
b=32

4.Solution

a=45
b=32

What is the equation, in point-slope form, of the line that is parallel to the given line and passes through the point (0,-1)
AfilCa [17]

Answer: in your case, point slope form will be y+1 = (the parellel slope or M)(x-0)

Step-by-step explanation:

basically the point slope form is suppose to be y - (y coodinate) = (M or slope)(x - (x coodinate) )

Parellel lines are the slope is the same, but the coordinates aren't

eg.    what is the equation, in point slope form, of the coordinate of a line (3,4) that is parellel to the equation: y = 3/4x + 6

no. 1: slope is 3/4

no. 2 plug all info into the equation: y - (y coodinate) = (M or slope)(x - (x coodinate) )

no.3 you have your equation! y - 4 = 3 / 4 ( x - 3 )

A probability distribution for a random variable Y is given by P(Y=y)=cy, for y=1,2,4,5 and c is a constant. Find E(Y), the expe
Dahasolnce [82]

Answer:

c(1+2+4+5) =1

c =\frac{1}{12}

Now we can find the expected value with this formula:

E(Y) =\sum_{i=1}^n Y_i P(Y_i) =\sum_{i=1}^n cy_i *y_i = cy^2_i

And replacing we got:

E(Y) = \frac{1}{12} (1^2 + 2^2 + 4^2 +5^2) = \frac{46}{12}= \frac{23}{6}

Step-by-step explanation:

For this case we know the following probability mass function given:

P(y) = cy , y= 1,2,4,5

For this case we need to satisfy the following condition in order to have a probability distribution function:

\sum_{i=1}^n P(y_i) =1

And we have this:

c(1+2+4+5) =1

c =\frac{1}{12}

Now we can find the expected value with this formula:

E(Y) =\sum_{i=1}^n Y_i P(Y_i) =\sum_{i=1}^n cy_i *y_i = cy^2_i

And replacing we got:

E(Y) = \frac{1}{12} (1^2 + 2^2 + 4^2 +5^2) = \frac{46}{12}= \frac{23}{6}
