Three balls are thrown off a tall building with the same speed but in different directions. Ball A is thrown in the horizontal d

irection; ball B starts out at 45° above the horizontal; ball C begins its flight at 45° below the horizontal. Which ball has the greatest speed just before it hits the ground? Assume that the ground near the building is level, and ignore any effects due to air resistance.1. Ball A2. Ball B3. Ball C4. Balls B and C have the same speed, which is greater than Ball A5. Answer:All balls have same velocity

Explanation:

Ball A

horizontal velocity\left ( u_x\right )=u

vertical velocity\left ( u_y\right )=0

let h be the height of building

Vertical velocity acquired by Ball A

u_y=\sqrt{2gh}

Velocity just before hitting ground=\sqrt{u^2+2gh}

Ball B

launched with velocity u at angle of 45 above horizontal

u_x=ucos45

u_y=usin45

horizontal velocity will remain same as there is no acceleration in that direction

vertical velocity just before hitting the floor

u_{yf}^2=\left ( usin45\right )^2+2gh

u_{yf}=\sqrt{\frac{u^2}{2}+2gh}

Final velocity before hitting ground v=\sqrt{u^2+2gh}

Ball C

u_x=ucos45

u_y=-usin45

horizontal velocity will remain same as there is no acceleration in that direction

vertical velocity just before hitting the floor

u_{yf}^2=\left ( -usin45\right )^2+2gh

u_{yf}=\sqrt{\frac{u^2}{2}+2gh}

Final velocity before hitting ground v=\sqrt{u^2+2gh}

Thus all three balls will have same final velocity.

g A meteoroid is in a circular orbit 600 km above the surface of a distant planet. The planet has the same mass as Earth but has
Nikitich [7]

Answer:

Explanation:

gravitational acceleration of meteoroid

=  GM / R²

M is mass of planet , R is radius of orbit of meteoroid from the Centre of the planet .

R = (.9 x 6370 + 600 )x 10³ m

= 6333 x 10³ m

M , mass of the planet = 5.97 x 10²⁴ kg .

gravitational acceleration of meteoroid

=  GM / R²

=  (6.67 x 10⁻¹¹ x 5.97 x 10²⁴ kg  / (6333 x 10³ m)²

9.92m/s²

A 235.0 g metal block absorbs 2.44 × 103 J of heat to raise its temperature by 35 K. What is the specific heat of the metal? Sho
andrew-mc [135]
When an object absorbs an amount of energy equal to Q, its temperature raises by \Delta T following the formula
Q=m C_s \Delta T
where m is the mass of the object and C_s is the specific heat capacity of the material.

In our problem, we have Q=2.44 \cdot 10^3 J, m=235.0 g and \Delta T=35 K, so we can re-arrange the formula and substitute the numbers to find the specific heat capacity of the metal:
C_s =  \frac{Q}{m \Delta T}= \frac{2.44 \cdot 10^3 J}{(235.0 g)(35 K)}=0.297 J g^{-1} K^{-1}
