A horizontal aluminum rod 3.3 cm in diameter projects 7.0 cm from a wall. A 1000 kg object is suspended from the end of the rod.

The shear modulus of aluminum is 3.0·1010 N/m2. Neglecting the rod's mass, find (a) the shear stress on the rod and (b) the vertical deflection of the end of the rod.

Answer:

a) τ= 2.59 MPa

b)y=28.4 x 10⁻⁵ cm

Explanation:

Given that

L= 3.3 cm

d= 7 cm

m= 1000 kg

G= 3 x 10¹⁰ Pa

Force due to load 1000 kg

P = m g= 1000 x 10 N

P = 10000 N

Area A

A=\dfrac{\pi}{4}d^2

A=\dfrac{\pi}{4}\times 70^2\ mm^2

A=3848.45 mm²

The shear stress τ

\tau=\dfrac{P}{A}

\tau=\dfrac{10000}{3848.45}\ MPa

τ= 2.59 MPa

Lets take vertical deflection is y

We know that

τ = G Φ

For small deflection

\phi=\dfrac{y}{L}

So

τ L = G y

y=\dfrac{\tau L}{G}

y=\dfrac{2.59\times 3.3}{3\times 10000}

y=0.000284 cm

y=28.4 x 10⁻⁵ cm

On earth a 2.25 kg object is lifted a height of 5.22m. What is the gravitational potential energy
zysi [14]

Answer:

<h2>117.45 J</h2>

Explanation:

The gravitational potential energy of a body can be found by using the formula

GPE = mgh

where

m is the mass

h is the height

g is the acceleration due to gravity which is 10 m/s²

From the question we have

GPE = 2.25 × 10 × 5.22

We have the final answer as

<h3>117.45 J</h3>

Hope this helps you

A water pipe is inclined 40.0° below the horizontal. The radius of the pipe at the upper end is 2.00 cm. If the gauge pressure a
aliya0001 [1]

Answer:

P_2 = -1.9 \times 10^8 Pa

Explanation:

As it is given that flow rate in the pipe is 20 cm^3/s

so we have

Q = A_1v_1 = A_2v_2

at the upper end the area is given as

A_1 = \pi r_1^2

A_1 = \pi(0.02)^2 = 1.26 \times 10^{-3} cm^2

Also at the other end

A_2 = \pi r_2^2

A_2 = \pi(0.01)^2 = 0.314 \times 10^{-3} cm^2

now the speed at two ends is given as

v_1 = \frac{20}{1.26 \times 10^{-3}}

v_1 = 159.15 m/s

v_2 = \frac{20}{0.314 \times 10^{-3}}

v_2 = 637 m/s

now by Bernoulli's theorem we have

P_1 + \frac{1}{2}\rho v_1^2 + \rho g h_1 = P_2 + \frac{1}{2}\rho v_2^2 + \rho g h_2

now we have

0.112(1.013 \times 10^5) + \frac{1}{2}1000(159.15)^2 + 1000(9.81)(2.65sin40) = P_2 + \frac{1}{2}(1000)(637)^2 + 0

Now we have

P_2 = -1.9 \times 10^8 Pa

Karo-lina-s [1.5K]
I think the correct answer from the choices listed above is option B. The very high voltage needed to create a spark across the spark plug is produced at the  transformer's secondary winding. <span>The secondary coil is engulfed by a powerful and changing magnetic field. This field induces a current in the coils -- a very high-voltage current.</span>
