Here object is dropped from height "h"

so we can say its initial speed is zero

and it will accelerate downwards due to gravity

now we can say it will take time T to hit the ground

now we can use

h = v_i*t + \frac{1}{2}gt^2

h = 0 + \frac{1}{2}*gT^2

now it is given that it will take 1 second to drop h/2 height to strike the ground

so here we have can say that in "T - 1" s it will cover the h/2 distance from start

h/2 = 0 + \frac{1}{2}g(T-1)^2

now we can say

h = g(T-1)^2

from above two equations we have

\frac{1}{2}gT^2 = g(T-1)^2

T^2 = 2(T^2 + 1 -2T)

T^2 - 4T + 2 = 0

T = 3.41 s

now we can find total height of the drop by first equation

h = \frac{1}{2}gT^2

h = \frac{1}{2}*9.81*3.41^2

h = 57.2 m

The 1994 Winter Olympics included the aerials competition in skiing. In this event skiers speed down a ramp that slopes sharply
kykrilka [37]

Answer: Got It!

<em>Explanation:  </em>let s = speed at launch

v = 0 at top = s sin 63 - g t

so at top

t = s sin 63/g = .0909 s

h = 13.6 = s sin 63 t - 4.9 t^2

13.6 = .081s^2 - .0405 s^2

s^2 = 336

s = 18.3 m/s

Work out the current through an electric kettle with a power of 2.2 kW if it uses the 180 V mains supply. Round your answer to 2
weeeeeb [17]

Answer:

12 A

Explanation:

Given,

Power of electric kettle=2.2 kW=2200W (since 1kW=1000W)

Voltage=180V

Current=?

Power = Voltage*Current

Current = Power ÷ Voltage

=2200W ÷ 180V

=12.22 Ampere

=12 A

Which statements describe how a machine can help make work easier? Select two options.
ad-work [718]

Answer:

  • It can put out more force than the input force by decreasing the distance through which force is applied.
  • It can apply a force to an object in a different direction than the force applied to the machine.

Explanation:

Assuming the machine is a simple machine, such as a lever or pulley, the machine will not do any more work than is put into it. However, it can change the magnitude or direction (or both) of the input force required to achieve a particular output force.

Because the machine does not increase the work done, if the output force is greater, the output distance must be less.

The applicable observations are ...

  • It can put out more force than the input force by decreasing the distance through which force is applied.
  • It can apply a force to an object in a different direction than the force applied to the machine.
