When the temperature of a gas changes, it's volume decreases from 12 cm3 to 7 cm3 if the final temperature is measured to be 18°
ElenaW [278]

Answer:

The initial temperature is 499 K

Explanation:

Step 1: Data given

initial volume = 12 cm3 = 12 mL

Final volume = 7 cm3 = 7mL

The final temperature = 18 °C = 291 K

Step 2: Calculate the initial temperature

V1/T1 = V2/T2

⇒with V1 = the initial volume = 0.012 L

⇒with T1 = the initial volume = ?

⇒with V2 = the final volume 0.007 L

⇒with T2 = The final temperature = 291 K

0.012 / T1 = 0.007 / 291

0.012/T1 = 2.4055*10^-5

T1 = 0.012/2.4055*10^-5

T1 = 499 K

The initial temperature is 499 K

Propane burns in air to form water vapor and another gas. What is the volume of the water vapor at 500°C and 1 atm?
kakasveta [241]

Answer:

253.85 L

Explanation:

We'll begin by writing the balanced equation for the reaction. This is illustrated below:

C₃H₈ + 5O₂ —> 3CO₂ + 4H₂O

From the balanced equation above, 4 moles of water vapor were produced.

Finally, we shall determine the volume of the water vapor produced as follow:

Mole water vapor (n) = 4 moles

Pressure (P) = 1 atm

Temperature (T) = 500 °C = 500 °C + 273 = 773 K

Gas constant (R) = 0.821 atm.L/Kmol

Volume (V) =?

PV = nRT

1 × V = 4 ×0.0821 × 773

V = 253.85 L

Thus, the volume of water vapor obtained is 253.85 L

How many grams of sodium hydroxide are needed to make 250. Ml of a 7.80 m solution?
sashaice [31]

Answer;

= 78 g of NaOH

Explanation;

Concentration = Moles of solute/Volume of solution

Thus;

Moles of the solute = Volume × Concentration

                                = 7.80 Moles/L × 0.250 L

                                 = 1.95 moles

But; 1 mole of NaOH = 40.0 g

Thus;

Mass of NaOH = moles × molar mass

                         = 1.95 moles × 40 g/mole

                         = 78 g of NaOH
