What is the slope of a line that contains the point(-5,4) and has a x intercept of -10?

Answer:

\frac{4}{5}

Step-by-step explanation:

Based on the information given we can say the two points are (-5, 4) and (-10, 0).  An x-intercept is where the line crosses the x-axis giving us a y value of 0.

So, we will use the following formula, where m is equal to the slope.

m=\frac{y_{2}-y_{1}}{x_{2}-x_{1}}

Now we will plug in the x and y values given above, (-5, 4) and (-10, 0).

m=\frac{0-4}{-10+5}\\ m=\frac{-4}{-5}\\ m=\frac{4}{5}

Note: In the denominator of the first line, the -5 was changed to a 5 because in the original equation, we are told to subtract.  When you have two negatives they cancel each other out.

Hope this helps! <3

Y= x +2 and y=3x-4 solved using substitution
weqwewe [10]
So I did this:

y=x +2
y=3x-4

I used the first equation to plug into the second equation.
x+2= 3x -4
I subtracted 3 from both sides so I get
-2x+2=-4
So I subtract 2 from both sides so I get
-2x=-6
I divide -2 on both sides and so I get
x=3
Then I plug the x into either equation. I did the first equation.
y=3+2
y=5
So x=3 and y=5
