Imagine pushing a door to open it. The force of your push (F) causes the door to rotate about its hinges (the pivot point, O). How hard you need to push depends on the distance you are from the hinges (r) (and several other things, but let's ignore them now). The closer you are to the hinges (i.e. the smaller r is), the harder it is to push. This is what happens when you try to push open a door on the wrong side. The torque you created on the door is smaller than it would have been had you pushed the correct side (away from its hinges).

Consider a sample that is a mixture composed of biphenyl, benzoic acid, and benzyl alcohol. Predict the order of elution of the
Tems11 [23]

Answer:

biphenyl, benzyl alcohol, benzoic acid

Explanation:

Due to the nonpolar nature of cyclohexane, biphenyl will be the first solute to be eluted due to the presence of two phenyl rings. The second solute to be eluted will be benzyl alcohol due to the presence of OH group. This is because it has the ability to exhibit hydrogen bond with the silica column of the chromatography. Lastly, the benzoic acid will be the third solute to be eluted due to the presence of COOH group which is more polar than the OH group. Therefore, the order of elution of the components in the mixture is biphenyl, benzyl alcohol, benzoic acid.

4vir4ik [10]

Answer:

The valence electrons in the metal atom in the lattice structure can delocalize and move freely. The electrons are "loosely" connected with their parent atom in the metallic bond because most metals have excess electrons in their outer orbitals above the stable configuration.

What will I benefit or what will I gain if I know the absorbance and emission of any substance?
Over [174]

Answer:

You would gain science knowledge, like if you wanted a science career this is more-than-likely something you would have to learn.

Emission and Absorbance of substances:

-Emission is the process where a substance gives off or emits radiation when it is heated or treated chemically. The level of emission of a substance depends on its spectroscopic composition and temperature.

-Absorption is the process where the electrons of a substance absorb or take up the energy wavelengths incident on them.
