Rutherford's atomic structure model was revolutionary. Contrary to J.J. Thompson's "plum pudding" model (which consisted of a solid, even mixture of protons and electrons), Rutherford's model consisted of one small, positively charged, dense nucleus, a layer of empty space, and a layer of negatively charged electrons. He came to this conclusion through his gold-foil experiment. He shot a ray of alpha particles towards the thin gold foil, and to Rutherford's surprise, some of the rays reflected back instead of going straight through the foil as he originally thought.

Determine the approximate amount of potassium hydrogen phthalate, KHP, that you will need to neutralize 6.00 ml of 0.100 M NaOH.
Sveta_85 [38]

Answer:

potassium hydrogen phthalate KHP MOLAR MASS = 204.233 glmol

to get 1000 ml

Molar concentration = Mass concentration/Molar Mass

mass concentration = molar concentration x molar mass

mass concentration=0.1 M,

molar mass= 204.233 g/mol

so to get 1L

mass conc = 204.233 x 0.1

= 20.4233g  for 1L or 1000 ml

to get 6.00 ml

if 20.4233g is for 1000ml

then to 6.00 ml

= 20.4233 x 6 / 1000

= 0.123g for 6.00 ml

according to the equation below

NaOH(aq) + KHC8H4O4(aq) --> KNaC8H4O4(aq) + H2O(l)

number of moles of NaOH is equal to that of KHP

so the same amount will be needed too, which is

= 0.123g

A plastic bottle is closed outdoors on a cold day when the temperature is −15.0°C and is later brought inside where the temperat
Lana71 [14]

Answer:

Pressure = 1.14 atm

Explanation:

Hello,

This question requires us to calculate the final pressure of the bottle after thermal equilibrium.

This is a direct application of pressure law which states that in a fixed mass of gas, the pressure of a given gas is directly proportional to its temperature, provided that volume remains constant.

Mathematically, what this implies is

P = kT k = P / T

P1 / T1 = P2 / T2 = P3 / T3 =........= Pn / Tn

P1 / T1 = P2 / T2

P1 = 1.0atm

T1 = -15°C = (-15 + 273.15)K = 258.15K

P2 = ?

T2 = 21.5°C = (21.5 + 273.15)K = 294.65K

P1 / T1 = P2 / T2

P2 = (P1 × T2) / T1

P2 = (1.0 × 294.65) / 258.15

P2 = 1.14atm

The pressure of the gas after attaining equilibrium is 1.14atm

What is chemsity and what does it have to do with science
MatroZZZ [7]
Chemistry is the study of the composition of matter and the ways in which matter interacts, combines, and changes under certain conditions.  Although not as fundamental as physics, chemistry is a very basic and broad science.  It helps us explain bodily interactions and natural process (biochemistry), it helps us to manufacture new medications, and true chemistry research will always follow the scientific method.

Consider the elements: Na, Mg, Al, Si, P.
Olegator [25]

Answer:

The elements mentioned in the series are Na, Mg, Al, Si, and P. It can be seen that all these elements are located in the same period. The atomic number of the mentioned elements are Na-11, Mg-12, Al-13, Si-14, and P-15.

a) There will be an increase in the ionization energy with the increase in the element's atomic number across a period. More energy is needed to withdraw an electron from a completely occupied shell in comparison to an incompletely occupied shell.

The atomic number of Na is 11. When one electron is withdrawn from Na, it gets converted into the inert gas configuration of Ne. Thus, it will require more energy to withdraw the second electron from Na. Hence, Na exhibits the lowest second ionization energy.

b) Across the period, with an increase in the element's atomic number, the atomic radii reduces from left to right. Thus, P exhibits the smallest atomic radius.

c) The metallic nature of the elements reduces from left to right across a period in the periodic table. Thus, P is the least metallic element.

d) Diamagnetic signifies towards the element that exhibits pair electrons in its sub-shells. The electronic configuration of Mg is,

1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2

In Mg, no unpaired electrons are present, while all the remaining elements mentioned exhibit unpaired electrons in their valence shell. Thus, Mg is the diamagnetic element.
