What is the octet rule? How does it affect how compounds are formed?

Chemistry

Explanation:

The octet rule is a rule that governs how atoms combines with each other. It postulates that atoms will prefer to have the stable configuration of noble gases by having eight electrons in their outermost shell.

Compounds forms when atoms combines to attain stability. The atoms of some elements shows no tendency to combine with themselves or other kinds of atoms because their outer energy levels are completely filled.

The driving force for many interatomic bonding is the tendency to have completely filled outer energy levels like the noble gases.

The various interatomic  bonds are formed in the bid of the atoms to be isoelectronic in the outer energy level with the noble gases.

This more stable form may be achieved by losing, or gaining electrons or the sharing of pairs of electrons.

How many hydrogen atoms are in 3.90 mol of ammonium sulfide?
lozanna [386]

Answer:

First, the number of ammonium sulfide molecules should be calculated:

N = NA × n,

where NA - the Avogadro number, n - number of moles.

N (ammonium sulfide) = 6.022 × 1023 × 8.5 mol = 51.187 × 1023.

The moelcular formula of ammonium sulfide is (NH4)2S. It means that each molecule contains 8 hydrogen atoms.

As a result, 8.5 mol of (NH4)2S contain:

51.187 × 1023 × 8 = 41 × 1024 hydrogen atoms.

Answer: 41 × 1024 hydrogen atoms

Greg and Shawn are studying for a physical science test. Greg thinks that the kinetic energy of an object depends on the height
Ludmilka [50]
It should be mass and speed so they are both incorrect because the height doesn’t mean much, but what matters is how heavy the object is, and how fast it’s going to go.
