Answer:

The balanced equation is:

2 PbS(s) + 3 O₂(g) → 2 PbO(s) + 2 SO₂(g)

Explanation:

The law of conservation of matter states that since no atom can be created or destroyed in a chemical reaction, the number of atoms that are present in the reagents has to be equal to the number of atoms present in the products.

Then, you must balance the chemical equation.

The subscripts next to each atom indicates the number of atoms in the equation. These must be added to observe the amount of each element on each side of the reaction. If the same atom appears in more than one molecule, you must add its quantities.

The coefficients located in front of each molecule indicate the amount of each molecule for the reaction. This coefficient can be modified to balance the equation, just as you should never alter the subscripts.

By multiplying the coefficient mentioned by the subscript, you get the amount of each element present in the reaction.

So in this case you have:

__PbS(s) + __O₂(g) → 2 PbO(s) + 2 SO₂(g)

Left side: 1 lead (Pb), 1 sulfur (S) and 2 oxygen (O).

Right side: 2 lead (Pb), 2 sulfur (S) and 6 (2+2*2) oxygen (O)

 • Balancing oxygen first, you get:

__PbS(s) + 3 O₂(g) → 2 PbO(s) + 2 SO₂(g)

Left side: 1 lead (Pb), 1 sulfur (S) and 6 (3*2) oxygen (O).

Right side: 2 lead (Pb), 2 sulfur (S) and 6 (2+2*2) oxygen (O)

 • Balancing the sulfur:

2 PbS(s) + 3 O₂(g) → 2 PbO(s) + 2 SO₂(g)

Left side: 2 lead (Pb), 2 sulfur (S) and 6 oxygen (O).

Right side: 2 lead (Pb), 2 sulfur (S) and 6 oxygen (O)

You can see that you finally have the same amount of each element on each side of the chemical reaction. So the balanced equation is:

2 PbS(s) + 3 O₂(g) → 2 PbO(s) + 2 SO₂(g)

A sample of a compound contains 3.21 g of sulfur and 11.4 g of fluorine. Which of the following represents the empirical formula
Sergeeva-Olga [200]

Answer:

The empirical formula is SF6 (option E)

Explanation:

Step 1: Data given

Mass of sulfur = 3.21 grams

Mass of fluorine = 11.4 grams

Molar mass sulfur = 32.065 g/mol

Molar mass fluorine = 19.00 g/mol

Step 2: Calculate moles

Moles = mass /molar mass

Moles sulfur = 3.21 grams / 32.065 g/mol

Moles sulfur = 0.100 moles

Moles fluorine = 11.4 grams / 19.00 g/mol

Moles fluorine = 0.600 moles

Step 3: Calculate mol ratio

We divide by the smallest amount of moles

S: 0.100 / 0.100 = 1

F : 0.600 / 0.100 = 6

The empirical formula is SF6 (option E)

fill in the blanks: label the different parts of the rock cycle where igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rock are formed.
Zarrin [17]

Answer:

☞rock cycle

=> The rock cycle is a basic concept in geology that describes transitions through geologic time among the three main rock types: sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous. Each rock type is altered when it is forced out of its equilibrium conditions.

=> There are three main kinds of rocks: igneous rock, metamorphic rock, and sedimentary rock. ... It can erode into sediment or melt into magma. It is formed under extreme pressure and temperature deep inside mountain chains.
