A wind turbine is initially spinning at a constant angular speed. As the wind’s strength gradually increases, the turbine experi

ences a constant angular acceleration of 0.140 rad/s2. After making 2870 revolu- tions, its angular speed is 137 rad/s. (a) What is the initial angular velocity of the turbine? (b) How much time elapses while the turbine is speeding up?

Answer:

a)   Initial angular speed = 117.13 rad/s

b)  Time elapsed = 141.92 s

Explanation:

a) We have equation of motion v² = u² + 2as

   Final angular speed, v = 137 rad/s

   Angular acceleration, a = 0.140 rad/s²

   Displacement,s = 2870 x 2π = 18032.74 rad

Substituting

   v² = u² + 2as

   137² = u² + 2 x 0.140 x 18032.74

    u² = 13719.83

    u = 117.13 rad/s

 Initial angular speed = 117.13 rad/s

b) We have equation of motion, v = u +at

            137 = 117.13 + 0.140  t

             t = 141.92 s

 Time elapsed = 141.92 s

The equation for momentum is p = mv, where p is momentum, m is mass, and v
Tasya [4]

Answer:

p = mv, where p is momentum, m is mass, and v is velocity.

a. ) m = 12kg v = 14m/s

Momentum (p) = mv

= 12kg × 14m/s

= 168kg•m/s

b.) momentum (p) = 35 kg•m/s

velocity = 3m/s

p = mv

make m the subject

divide both sides by v

we get

m = p/v

Therefore m is

m = 35 kg•m/s / 3m/s

m = 11.67kg

Therefore the mass of the object is 11.67kg

Hope this helps

The basic barometer can be used to measure the height of a building. If the barometric readings at the top and the bottom of a b
erma4kov [3.2K]

Answer:

h = 269.6 m

Explanation:

Pressure at the bottom of the building and at the top of the building must be related as

P_{top} = P_{bottom} - \rho g h

P_{top} = 730 mm Hg

P_{bottom} = 755 mm Hg

now we will have

(755 \times 10^{-3})(13.6 \times 10^3)(9.81) = P_{bottom}

P_{bottom} = 1.007 \times 10^5 Pa

P_{top} = (730\times 10^{-3})(13.6 \times 10^3)(9.81)

P_{top} = 0.974 \times 10^5

now we have

(1.007 - 0.974)\times 10^5 = 1.25 (9.81) h

h = 269.6 m
