Which is the equation of a hyperbola centered at the origin with x-intercept +\- 3 and asymptote y=2x

Answer:

{\dfrac{x^{2}}{9} - \dfrac{y^{2}}{36} = 1}

Step-by-step explanation:

The hyperbola has x-intercepts, so it has a horizontal transverse axis.

The standard form of the equation of a hyperbola with a horizontal transverse axis is  \dfrac{(x - h)^{2}}{a^{2}} - \dfrac{(y - k)^{2}}{b^{2}} = 1

The center is at (h,k).

The distance between the vertices is 2a.

The equations of the asymptotes arey = k \pm \dfrac{b}{a}(x - h)

1. Calculate h and k. The hyperbola is symmetric about the origin, so

h = 0 and k = 0

2. For 'a': 2a = x₂ - x₁ = 3 - (-3) = 3 + 3 = 6

a = 6/2 = 3

3. For 'b': The equation for the asymptote with the positive slope is

y = k + \dfrac{b}{a}(x - h) = \dfrac{b}{a}x

Thus,  asymptote has the slope of

\begin{array}{rcl}m& =& \dfrac{b}{a}\\\\2& =& \dfrac{b}{3}\\\\b& =& \mathbf{6}\end{array}

4.  The equation of the hyperbola is

\large \boxed{\mathbf{\dfrac{x^{2}}{9} - \dfrac{y^{2}}{36} = 1}}

The attachment below represents your hyperbola with x-intercepts at ±3 and asymptotes with slope ±2.

How do you do that?????
Elden [556K]
This question is easy once you understand. So when adding, subtracting, multiplying, or dividing with whole numbers you turn it into a fraction. So 12 is going to become 12/1. 8 1/8 is a mixed number so we have to turn it into an incomplete fraction. Here is how you do it. Multiply the denominator by the who number. So 8 x 8 = 64. Then you add your product to the numerator, which will make it 65. Then after this you keep your denominator giving you 65/8. Now we have to find the common denominator by finding the LCM. So the LCM is 8. Next we divide the old denominator by the new denominator. So 1 goes into 8, 8 times. And next 8 x the numerator. so 8 x 12 = 96. We do the same to the other side. Now we have 96/8 - 65/8 = 31/8. Finally we make this a mixed number. So 31 divided by 8. So you should get 3 7/8.

I hope this helps! :)

the median of the values in a data set is y. if 48 were subtracted from each of the values in the data set what would be the med
Nataliya [291]

 Answer: Y-48

<span>If the median of the values in the data set is Y, it means that Y is the value in the middle of the data set. If 48 will be deducted from each of all values in the data set including Y, then the median of the resulting value will be Y-48. </span>
