Ted has a fixed amount of money in his budget for holiday gifts. He decides that his wife and his mother will receive gifts of e

qual value. The gift for his sister will cost half of what his mother’s gift cost, and his brother’s gift will be equal to his sister’s. He will also spend $20 on a video game for his nephew. Let T represent Ted’s total budget and x represent the value of his sister’s gift. Which of the following equations could Ted use? A. T = 6x + 20 B. T = x + x + 2x + 20 C. T=x2+4x+20 D. T = 3x + 20

Answer would be A- 6x+20   his siters gift is x, (x)6=6 x
moms gift and wifes gift are each a (2x) than his two (2x) and 2(x's) = 6x.
2x+2x+x+x=6x, so now 6x+20 equals total ammount spent (total budget)

Solve the system of equations -x+ 2y = –11 and 5x – 8y = 39 by<br> combining the equations.
Alchen [17]

Answer:

x=-5, y=-8. (-5, -8).

Step-by-step explanation:

-x+2y=-11

5x-8y=39

---------------

5(-x+2y)=5(-11)

5x-8y=39

---------------------

-5x+10y=-55

5x-8y=39

--------------------

2y=-16

y=-16/2

y=-8

-x+2(-8)=-11

-x-16=-11

-x=-11+16

-x=5

x=-5

Factor the polynomial function over the complex numbers. f(x)=x^4-x^3-2x−4 Enter your answer in the box. f(x) = The answer is: (
Vladimir79 [104]

Answer:

Factors: (x+i\sqrt2)(x-i\sqrt2)(x+1)(x-2)=0

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given a polynomial:

f(x)=x^4-x^3-2x-4

We have to factor the given polynomial into its complex factors.

The factorization can be done as follows:

f(x)=x^4-x^3-2x-4 = 0\\x^4-x^3-2x-4 = 0\\x^4-4-x^3-2x=0\\\text{Identity: }a^2-b^2 = (a+b)(a-b)\\(x^4-4)-(x^3+2x) = 0\\(x^2+2)(x^2-2)-x(x^2+2) = 0\\(x^2+2)(x^2-2-x) = 0\\(x^2+2)(x^2-x-2) = 0\\(x^2+2)(x^2-2x-+x-2) = 0\\(x^2+2)((x(x-2)+1(x-2))=0\\(x^2+2)(x+1)(x-2)=0\\\text{Identity: }a^2-b^2 = (a+b)(a-b)\\(x^2-(\sqrt{-2})^2)(x+1)(x-2)=0\\(x+i\sqrt2)(x-i\sqrt2)(x+1)(x-2)=0
