also as length = width + 2 we can write the equation L = W+2

now replace the L in the first equation by W+2, we get:-

2(W+2) + 2W = 24

solve for W:-

2W + 4 + 2W = 24
4W = 24-4 = 20

W = 20/4 = 5

width = 5 meters.
