Protons will ALWAYS determine what the element is, always, no matter what. If I change the number of protons, I’m going to get a new element. Taking Hydrogen (with it’s one proton) and adding a second proton won’t make it hydrogen anymore- it becomes helium. The atomic number just shows you how many protons and electrons this element has. The symbol is only going to tell you what element this is. The weight? Well, that just tells you how many amu the element is, so it’s no help here. Electrons are always equal to the number of protons, and because I can’t change the protons without getting a new element, they also won’t help.

The answer for this guy is neutrons. It’s helpful to know the definition of an isotope- the same element with different number of neutrons.

A scientist discovers a new type of polymer. What must be true about this polymer?
DochEvi [55]

The correct answer is D

a polymer is a substance made up of large molecules with repeating sub units called monomers.

A is incorrect because its a ring structure which means it cannot form the long chain that is exhibited by polymers.

B is incorrect because the double bonds will cause saturation, hence no monomer can bond to another monomer to form the large molecule.

C is incorrect because the large molecule  has repeating sub-units hence only specific types of molecules can be present, and it is usually carbon and hydrogen.

Which missing item would complete this beta decay reaction?<br> PLATO
goldfiish [28.3K]

Answer: _{-1}^0\beta

Explanation:

General representation of an element is given as:   _Z^A\textrm{X}

where,

Z represents Atomic number

A represents Mass number

X represents the symbol of an element

Beta decay : In this process, a neutron gets converted into a proton and an electron releasing a beta-particle. The beta particle released carries a charge of -1 units.

_Z^A\textrm{X}\rightarrow _{Z+1}^A\textrm{Y}+_{-1}^0\beta

The given reaction would be represented as:

_{43}^{98}\textrm{Tc}\rightarrow_{44}^{98}\textrm{Pb}+_{-1}^0\beta
