A wooden disk of mass m and radius r has a string of negligible mass is wrapped around it. If the disk is allowed to fall and th

e string is held so that it unravels without sliding as the disk is falling, what will be the wooden disk's acceleration? What would be the tension on string in the process?

Answer:

a = \frac{2}{3}g

T = \frac{mg}{3}

Explanation:

As the disc is unrolling from the thread then at any moment of the time

We have force equation as

mg - T = ma

also by torque equation we can say

TR = I\alpha

TR = \frac{1}{2}mR^2(\frac{a}{R})

T = \frac{1}{2}ma

Now we have

mg - \frac{1}{2}ma = ma

mg = \frac{3}{2}ma

a = \frac{2}{3}g

Also from above equation the tension force in the string is

T = \frac{1}{2}ma

T = \frac{mg}{3}

A patient is administered 20 mg of iodine-131. How much of this isotope will remain in the body after 40 days if the half-life f
igor_vitrenko [27]

The formula for half-life is:

A_{final}=A_{initial}(\frac{1}{2})^{\frac{t}{h}}

Where A is the amount of iodine-131 initially and after 40 days, t is time, h is half-life of the isotope.  Let's plug in our values to the equation:

A_{final}=20(\frac{1}{2})^{\frac{40}{8}=0.625g

Therefore, the patient has 0.625 grams of iodine-131 after 40 days.

A 225-kg bumper car (and its occupant) is moving north at 98 cm/s when it hits a 198-kg car (occupant mass included) moving nort
stira [4]
To solve the problem you must first know that by keeping the linear moment P1 = P2. You must find P1 from the system and equal it to P2 of the system, from that equation you clear the final velocity 1. Which will result in V1f = 60.16 cm / s to the north.I attach the solution.
