Early maturing girls are experiencing Early or Precocious puberty

Early maturing girls are faced with lot of challenges in the society. Latest study shows girls that attain puberty early are likely to be depressed, involves in substance abuse, eating disorders, depression and many more.  Normal puberty age for girls falls within the age of 10 and 11 years old, but yet there girls who develop into maturing at the age of 8 years. This early puberty is tagged precocious puberty or early puberty. Though early puberty is not harmful in anyway but researchers has linked some health and psychological consequences to girls that matured early.

  1. Some of the signs of early puberty include,
  2. Development of breast in girls
  3. Start period’s early
  4. Acne development
  5. Underarm hair growth
  6. Body odor.

Causes of early maturity

There is no precise reason why girls attain puberty early, though some cases of early puberty has been ascribed to:

  1. genetics,
  2. chemical or environmental causes,
  3. central nervous system injuries and many more.

There are emotional, physical and social consequences of attaining puberty early in girls and this include

  • Behavioral changes,
  • stunted growth,
  • teasing or bullying among peers,
  • anxiety and increased depression,
  • low self-esteem, greater risk of drug abuse,
  • early sexual activities,
  • poor academic performance which could result to dropping out from school.
