Hunt, barnett, and branch (1971) showed that between 60 and 70% of the individuals treated for alcohol, tobacco, or heroin abuse in abstinence-oriented programs had returned to their primary substance use three months after treatment. This study suggests that the relapse dynamic cuts across different substances of abuse and may be a fundamental aspect of all addictive behaviors, at present, abstinence is not a reliable or viable method for the treatment of addictions.

How does biodiversity support healthy ecosystems
pav-90 [236]

ANSWER: Biological biodiversity refers to all the different kinds of life that are obtainable in a particular ecosystem, this include all the plants and animal populations that are found in a particular geographical area.

Biodiversity supports healthy ecosystem because it enhances the productivity and the survival of the ecosystem. For instance, in a situation where there are large number of different plant population in an ecosystem, such population will present variability in genetic make up. If a negative event occur in the ecosystem, it will be possible for some plants to survive. But, in a situation where it is only one type of plant that is obtainable in the ecosystem, it will be quite easy to wipe all of them out at once. For instance, a disease outbreak can easily destroy all the plants.

Many of the organisms in the ocean are nutrient-limited. if you wanted to investigate this phenomenon, one reasonable approach w
Mamont248 [21]
None of the provided options are reasonable. comparing nutrient concentrations between the photic zone and the benthic zone can not tell you whether differences in concentrations between the photic and benthic zone are due to uptake by phytoplankton or because nutrients are sinking to the sea bottom and ocean stratification is preventing mixing. The approach of contrasting nutrient uptake by autotrophs at different locations under different temperatures would not provide useful information on limiting nutrients. but rather uptake rates at different temperatures. It is likely that experimentally enriching some areas of the ocean and compare their productivity to that of untreated areas can provide an indication of limiting nutrients, but this is not advisable, as it would have to be done on a large scale, and one cannot be sure of the ecological consequences. Also, because it would not be a controlled experiment, other factors could create 'noise' in the data. The last option, observe antarctic ocean productivity from year to year to see if it changes, also does not help, as there is no correlation between nutrient concentrations using this approach. The best approaches would be either the last approach, but with the additional monitoring of nutrient concentrations, or under a controlled laboratory experiment.
