Answer: The delta negative charge is present on Chlorine atom.

Explanation:

Carbon-chlorine bond is a polar bond.

A polar bond is defined as the bond which is present between the atoms of different electronegativity values.

An atom which attracts the shared pair of electron more towards itself is known as electronegative atom and has high value of electronegativity (it attains a partial negative charge). An atom which does not attract the shared pair of electron towards itself is known as electropositive atom and has low value of electronegativity( it attains a partial positive charge).

Electronegativity of Chlorine = 3.16

Electronegativity of Carbon = 2.55

As, electronegativity of chlorine is more than the electronegativity of carbon. Hence, the delta negative charge will be present on Chlorine atom.

Carbon can be used to displace some metals from their ores. Explain the process by which iron is displaced from its ore by carbo
RideAnS [48]

Iron is extracted from iron ore in a huge container called a blast furnace. Iron ores such as hematite contain iron(III) oxide, Fe2O3. The oxygen must be removed from the iron(III) oxide in order to leave the iron behind. Reactions in which oxygen is removed are called reduction reactions.

Carbon is more reactive than iron, so it can displace iron from iron(III) oxide. Here are the equations for the reaction.

Step 1 – Hot air (oxygen) reacts with the coke (carbon) to produce carbon dioxide and heat energy to heat up the furnace.

C(s) + O2(g) → CO2(g)

Step 2 – More coke is added to the furnace and reduces the carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide, a good reducing agent.

CO2(g) + C(s) → 2CO(g)

Step 3 – iron(III) oxide is reduced.

iron(III) oxide + carbon → iron + carbon dioxide

2Fe2O3(s) + 3C(s) → 4Fe(l) + 3CO2(g)

In this reaction, the iron(III) oxide is reduced to iron, and the carbon is oxidized to carbon dioxide.

In the blast furnace, it is so hot that carbon monoxide can be used, in place of carbon, to reduce the iron(III) oxide:

iron(III) oxide + carbon monoxide → iron + carbon dioxide

Fe2O3(s) + 3CO(g) → 2Fe(l) + 3CO2(g)

A mixture containing nitrogen and hydrogen weighs 3.48 g and occupies a volume of 7.47 L at 296 K and 1.02 atm. Calculate the ma
Sonbull [250]

Answer:

there is 2% of hydrogen and 98% of nitrogen (mass percent)

Explanation:

assuming ideal gas behaviour

P*V=n*R*T

n= P*V/(R*T)

where P= pressure=1.02 atm , V=volume=7.47 L , T=absolute temperature= 296 K and R= ideal gas constant = 0.082 atm*L/(mole*K)

thus

n= P*V/(R*T) = 1.02 atm*7.47 L/( 296 K * 0.082 atm*L/(mole*K)) = 0.314 moles

since the number of moles is related with the mass m through the molecular weight M

n=m/M

thus denoting 1 as hydrogen and 2 as nitrogen

m₁+m₂ = mt (total mass)

m₁/M₁+m₂/M₂ = n

dividing one equation by the other and denoting mass fraction w₁= m₁/mt , w₂= m₂/mt , w₂= 1- w₁

w₁/M₁+w₂/M₂ = n/mt

w₁/M₁+(1-w₁) /M₂ = n/mt

w₁*(1/M₁- 1/M₂) + 1/M₂ = n/mt

w₁= (n/mt- 1/M₂) /(1/M₁- 1/M₂)

replacing values

w₁= (n/mt- 1/M₂) /(1/M₁- 1/M₂) = (0.314 moles/3.48 g - 1/(14 g/mole)) /(1/(1 g/mole)-1/(14 g/mole))= 0.02 (%)

and w₂= 1-w₁= 0.98 (98%)

thus there is 2% of hydrogen and 98% of nitrogen

What happens when you heat iodine and ammonium chloride?
DiKsa [7]
Test tube of ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) being heated over a bunsen burner flame. Ammonium chloride decomposes readily when heated, but condenses in the cooler area at the top of the test tube. This is a reversible reaction, where the ammonium chloride decomposes into the gases ammonia (NH3) and hydrogen chloride (HCl).

Which two particles are always found in equal number in neutral atoms
AysviL [449]

Answer:

When an atom has an equal number of electrons and protons, it has an equal number of negative electric charges (the electrons) and positive electric charges (the protons). The total electric charge of the atom is therefore zero and the atom is said to be neutral.

I hope it helps.

Have a great day.
