When ultraviolet light with a wavelength of 400 nm falls on a certain metal surface, the maximum kinetic energy of the emitted p

hotoelectrons is 1.10 eV.
What is the maximum kinetic energy K_0 of the photoelectrons when light of wavelength 330 nm falls on the same surface?

Use h = 6.63×10-34 J*s for Planck's constant and c = 3.00×108 m/s for the speed of light and express your answer in electron volts.

Answer:

1.76 eV

Explanation:

Maximum kinetic energy of the emitted photo electrons = energy of the photon- work function of the metal

K.E' = (hc/λ)-∅.................. Equation 1

Where K.E' = maximum kinetic energy of the emitted photo electrons, h = Planck's constant, c = speed, λ = wave length, ∅ = work function of the metal.

make ∅ the subject of the equation

∅ = (hc/λ)-K.E'.................. Equation 2

Given: h = 6.63×10⁻³⁴ J.s, c = 3×10⁸ m/s, λ = 400 nm = 400×10⁻⁹ m, K.E' = 1.1 eV = 1.1(1.602×10⁻¹⁹) J = 1.7622×10⁻¹⁹ J

Substitute into equation 2

∅ = [6.63×10⁻³⁴(3×10⁸)/400×10⁻⁹ ]-1.7622×10⁻¹⁹

∅ = (4.973×10⁻¹⁹)-(1.7622×10⁻¹⁹)

∅ = 3.21×10⁻¹⁹ J.

The maximum kinetic energy of the photo electrons when the wave length is 330 nm is

K.E' = [6.63×10⁻³⁴( 3×10⁸ )/330×10⁻⁹]-(3.21×10⁻¹⁹)

K.E' = (6.03×10⁻¹⁹)-(3.21×10⁻¹⁹)

K.E' = 2.82×10⁻¹⁹ J

K.E' = 2.82×10⁻¹⁹/1.602×10⁻¹⁹

K.E' = 1.76 eV

How much ice (at 0°C) must be added to 1.90 kg of water at 79 °C so as to end up with all liquid at 8 °C? (ci = 2000 J/(kg.°
muminat

m = mass of the ice added = ?

M = mass of water = 1.90 kg

c_{w} = specific heat of the water = 4186 J/(kg ⁰C)

c_{i}  = specific heat of the ice = 2000 J/(kg ⁰C)

L_{f} = latent heat of fusion of ice to water = 3.35 x 10⁵ J/kg

T_{ii}  = initial temperature of ice = 0 ⁰C

T_{wi} = initial temperature of water = 79 ⁰C

T = final equilibrium temperature = 8 ⁰C

using conservation of heat

Heat gained by ice = Heat lost by water

m c_{w}  (T - T_{ii} ) + m L_{f}  = M c_{w}  (T_{wi} - T)

inserting the values

m (4186) (8 - 0) + m (3.35 x 10⁵ ) = (1.90) (4186) (79 - 8)

m = 1.53 kg

Y_Kistochka [10]

Complete question is;

A bicycle and a car start their journey at the same time the cyclist reaches it's top speed of 10m/s in 15 s, the car reaches a speed of 15 m/s in 55 s. which has the greater acceleration the car or the bicycle.

Answer:

The bicycle has the greater acceleration.

Explanation:

Cyclist reaches a top speed of 10m/s in 15 s.

Formula for acceleration here is;

a = v/t

a = 10/15

a = 0.67 m/s²

Car reaches a speed of 15 m/s in 55 s.

Thus;

a = 15/55

a = 0.27 m/s²

From the 2 acceleration values gotten, we can say that;

The bicycle has the greater acceleration.
