Calcium reacts with oxygen to form an ionic bond. An ionic bond by definition is the kind of chemical bond formed when there is a complete transfer of valence electrons from one atom to another, generating two oppositely charged ions. In ionic bonding, the metal loses electrons to become a positively charged cation, whereas the nonmetal accepts those electrons and becomes a negatively charged anion. Calcium has two electrons in its valence or outermost shell while oxygen has 6 electrons. Calcium gives up these two electrons and becomes positively charged and oxygen accepts them and becomes negatively charged forming an ionic bond resulting in a new compound called calcium oxide.

The electron configuration of an element is 1s22s22p4.
MissTica

The likely thing which happens when two atoms of this element move toward each other is covalent bonding.

What is Covalent bonding?

This involves the atoms of element sharing electrons in order to achieve a stable octet configuration.

The element is oxygen which has an atomic number of 8 and needs two electrons to complete its outermost shell which results in the formation of two covalent bonds.

What is a chemical treatment process used to remove dissolved ionic species from contaminated aqueous streams?
NeTakaya

Answer:

Ion exchange.

Explanation:

One of the ways in which water can be treated is through the process known as ION EXCHANGE. Using this for treating water has to do basically with the transfer or say the exchange of ions.

Ion exchanges is done by exchanging ions which are considered as 'unfit' or contaminants by the ones that are "fit".

Ions from what is known as zeolite or resin is been exchanged with the ions in the water. Cations are exchanged with cations and anions are exchanged with anions.

NB: this method is a good method or removing contaminants that are ions but not contaminants that are not ions.

Which statement describes the charge and location of an electron in an atom?
NemiM [27]

Answer is: It has a negative charge and is located in orbitals around the nucleus.

The electron (symbol: e⁻) is a subatomic particle whose electric charge is negative one elementary charge.

Electrons are moving in energy levels around nucleus.

The electron has a mass that is approximately 1/1836 that of the proton.

Electrons have properties of both particles and waves.
