A tire company has developed a new type of steel-belted radial tire. Extensive testing indicates the population of mileages obta

ined by all tires of this new type is normally distributed with a mean of 40,839 miles and a standard deviation of 4,056 miles. The company wishes to offer a guarantee providing a discount on a new set of tires if the original tires purchased do not exceed the mileage stated in the guarantee. What should the guaranteed mileage be if the tire company desires that no more than 2 percent of the tires will fail to meet the guaranteed mileage?

Answer:

X=32152

Explanation:

Given that

Mean ,μ=40,839 miles

Standard deviation,σ = 4,056 miles

We know that

Z=\dfrac{X-\mu }{\sigma}

Given that

P(Z

When P= 0.02 then Z=-2.053 (From standard chart)

Z=\dfrac{X-\mu }{\sigma}

-2.053=\dfrac{X-40839 }{4056}

X=32512.032 ≅32512

X=32152

so the guaranteed mileage is X=32152

An object is placed in front of a lens at 10cm from its optic centre.The image is seen on the same side of lens at 60cm distance
shusha [124]

Answer:

Focal length is 12 cm

Nature is Convex lens

Explanation:

Object distance=p= 10 cm

Image distance =q = -60 cm (Image is at the same side)

focal length= f = ?

According to lens equation

1/f = 1/p + 1/q

1/f = 1/10 + 1/(-60)

1/f = 1/10 - 1/60

1/f = 5/60

or

f= 12 cm

(It is a convex lens because focal length is positive)

An airplane flies eastward and always accelerates at a constant rate. At one position along its path, it has a velocity of 32.3
olga_2 [115]

Answer:

0.00986m/s^2

Explanation:

I think there are some repetitions in the question which may be due to typographical errors. The correct question should have been as stated below:

An airplane flies eastward and always accelerates at a constant rate. At one position along its path, it has a velocity of 32.3 m/s . It then flies a further distance of 41300 m, and afterwards, its velocity is 43.1 m/s . Find the airplane's acceleration.

This problem could be solved using the third equation of  a uniformly accelerated motion, since the airplane is said to accelerate at a constant (uniform) rate. The equation is given by;

v^2=u^2+2as

where v is the final velocity, u the initial velocity, a acceleration and s distance.

u=32.3m/s\\ v=43.1m/s\\s=41300m\\a=?

We substitute these values into the equation and then solve for the unknown;

43.1^2=32.3^2+2(a)(41300)\\43.1^2-32.3^2= 82600a\\1857.61-1043.29=82600a\\814.32=82600a\\Hence\\a=814.32/82600=0.00986m/s^2
