Answer is (b) - 5.9 x 10⁻².

Explanation;

The balanced reaction is

CO(g) + 3H₂(g) ⇄ CH₄(g) + H₂O(g)

We can write the equation for the equilibrium constant, Kc as follows,

Kc = ( [CH₄(g)] x [H₂O(g)] ) / ( [CO(g)] x [H₂(g)]³ )

Given data,

Kc = 3.90

[CO(g)] = 0.3 M

[H₂(g)] = 0.1 M

[CH₄(g)] = ?

[H₂O(g)] = 0.020 M

From substitution,

    3.90 = ( [CH₄(g)] x 0.020 ) / ( (0.10)³ x 0.30 )

[CH₄(g)] = ( 3.90 x 0.30 x (0.1)³ ) / 0.020

[CH₄(g)] = 0.0585

             = 0.059 = 5.9 x 10⁻²

The correct answer for this question is this one: <u>d. 5.9 x 10^2</u>
<span>The reaction is at equilibrium at 1,000 k. the equilibrium constant of the reaction is 3.90. at equilibrium, the concentrations are as follows.[co] = 0.30 m[h2] = 0.10 m[h2o] = 0.020 m

The equilibrium concentration of ch4 expressed in scientific notation is
a. 0059
b. 5.9 x 10^-2
c. 0.059
<u>d. 5.9 x 10^2</u></span>

Hope this helps answer your question and have a nice day ahead.

A box contains 104 gas molecules, 2500 of nitrogen and 7500 of argon in thermal equilibrium. The molecular weight of N2 is 28g/m
LekaFEV [45]

Answer : The temperature of this gas will be, 206.9 K

Explanation :

The expression for the kinetic energy per molecule of monoatomic gas (argon) is:

K.E_{argon}=n_{argon}\times \frac{3}{2}\times K_BT      ...........(1)

The expression for the kinetic energy per molecule of diatomic gas (nitrogen gas) is:

K.E_{nitrogen}=n_{nitrogen}\times \frac{5}{2}\times K_BT      .............(2)

The total kinetic energy of the molecule will be,

K.E_{Total}=K.E_{argon}+K.E_{nitrogen}

Now put all the expression in this, we get:

K.E_{Total}=(7500)\times \frac{3}{2}\times K_BT+(2500)\times \frac{5}{2}\times K_BT

T=\frac{K.E}{17500\times K_B}

Now put all the given values in this expression, we get:

T=\frac{5\times 10^{-17}J}{17500\times (1.381\times 10^{-23}J/K)}

T=206.9K

Therefore, the temperature of this gas will be, 206.9 K
