(And don't forget that an object going around a curve at a constant speed is also accelerating.)

I believe there are two reasons:

1). The term is inadequately taught in the American public school system ... along with much of the rest of Science and Math in general.

2). The word became permanently and indelibly corrupted when the automotive industry decided to name the gas pedal the "accelerator".

Determine the normal boiling point of a substance whose vapor pressure is 55.1 mm hg at 35°c and has a δhvap of 32.1 kj/mol.
Novosadov [1.4K]

Answer:

389.78681 K

Explanation:

P_1 = Initial pressure = 55.1 mmHg

P_2 = Final pressure = 1 atm = 760 mmHg

T_2 = Boiling point

T_1 = Initial temperature = 35°C

\Delta H_{vap} = Heat of vaporization = 32.1 kJ/mol

From the Clausius-Claperyon equation

ln\dfrac{P_2}{P_1}=(-\dfrac{\Delta H_{vap}}{R})(\dfrac{1}{T_2}-\dfrac{1}{T_1})\\\Rightarrow \dfrac{1}{T_2}=-ln\dfrac{P_2}{P_1}\dfrac{R}{\Delta H_{vap}}+\dfrac{1}{T_1}\\\Rightarrow \dfrac{1}{T_2}=-ln\dfrac{760}{55.1}\dfrac{8.314}{32.1\times 10^{3}}+\dfrac{1}{273.15+35}\\\Rightarrow T_2=\left(-ln\left(\frac{760}{55.1}\right)\frac{8.314}{32.1\times \:10^3}+\frac{1}{273.15+35}\right)^{-1}\\\Rightarrow T_2=389.78681\ K

The normal boiling point of the substance is 389.78681 K

How is nuclear fusion different from an explosion from chemical reactions
ELEN [110]

Answer:The main difference between these two processes is that fission is the splitting of an atom into two or more smaller ones while fusion is the fusing of two or more smaller atoms into a larger one.

Explanation:Protons and neutrons make up a nucleus, which is the foundation of nuclear science.

Black holes are suspected when a visible star is being noticeably
olganol [36]

a) The mass of the black hole is 9.94\cdot 10^{30} kg

b) The black hole is 5 times more massive than the sun

Explanation:

a)

The magnitude of the gravitational force between the black hole and the star is:

F=G\frac{m M}{r^2}

where :

G=6.67\cdot 10^{-11} m^3 kg^{-1}s^{-2} is the gravitational constant

m is the mass of the star

M is the mass of the black hole

r is the separation between the objects

According to Newton's second law, the force acting on the star can be also written as

F=ma

where a is the acceleration

Combining the two equations,

a=\frac{GM}{r^2}

where:

r=9.4 \cdot 10^{10} m is the distance between the two objects

a=0.075 m/s^2 is the acceleration of the star

Solving for M, we find the mass of the black hole:

M=\frac{ar^2}{G}=\frac{(0.075)(9.4\cdot 10^{10})^2}{6.67\cdot 10^{-11}}=9.94\cdot 10^{30} kg

b)

The mass of the Sun is:

M_s = 1.99\cdot 10^{30} kg

while the mass of the black hole in this problem is

M=9.94\cdot 10^{30} kg

Therefore, the mass of the black hole written in terms of the solar mass is:

\frac{M}{M_s}=\frac{9.94\cdot 10^{30}}{1.99\cdot 10^{30}}=5

So, the black hole is 5 times more massive than the sun.

A stone is placed in a graduated cylinder to determine its volume. The following data are obtained. What is the volume of the st
LUCKY_DIMON [66]
To solve this, you subtract the initial volume from the final volume. So, 29.5 mL minus 25.0 mL is 4.5 mL. Technically, at this point you need to say 4.50 mL, because of sig figs. The volume of the stone will not be in mL, because the stone is not a liquid or a gas, so you must convert it to cm3. So, your answer is (a), 4.50 cm3.
Hope this helps!
