Answer: -

The temperature change for water in the 4-liter container will be

a.half that of the 2-liter container.

Explanation: -

The increase in temperature of a substance when heat is given to it is given by the formula

Q = m x c x ΔT

Where Q is the heat supplied, m is the mass of water, c is the specific heat of water and ΔT is the change in the temperature of water.

Or ΔT = \frac{Q}{m x c}

From the formula we see that for the same amount of heat, increase is temperature is more for less amount of mass.

We know that more the volume of water, more the amount of water present and consequently more the mass of water.

Thus for the same amount of heat supplied, the temperature increases more for a lesser volume of water.

Let density of water be d.

Mass of 4 L= volume x density = 4 L x d

T 1 = ΔT for 4 L = \frac{Q}{m x c}

                  = \frac{Q}{4 L x d x c}

Mass of 2 L= volume x density = 2 L x d

T2 = ΔT for 2 L = \frac{Q}{m x c}

                  = \frac{Q}{2 L x d x c}

On taking ratio

\frac{T 2}{T 1} = 2

Thus the temperature change for water in the 4-liter container will be

a.half that of the 2-liter container.

<u>Answer:</u> The equations are provided below.

<u>Explanation:</u>

Skeleton equations are defined as the equations which simply indicate the molecules that are involved in a chemical reaction. These equations are unbalanced equations.

Balanced equations are defined as the chemical equation in which number of individual atoms on the reactant side must be equal to the number of individual atoms on the product side.

  • For A:

Water decomposes in the direct current to form hydrogen and oxygen.

Skeleton Equation: H_2O(l)\rightarrow H_2(g)+O_2(g)

Balanced Equation: 2H_2O(l)\rightarrow 2H_2(g)+O_2(g)

  • For B:

Mercury (II) oxide decomposes in heat to form mercury, oxygen.

Skeleton Equation: HgO(s)\rightarrow Hg+O_2

Balanced Equation: 2HgO(s)\rightarrow 2Hg+O_2

  • For C:

Calcium carbonate when heated forms calcium oxide and carbon dioxide.

Skeleton Equation: CaCO_3(s)\rightarrow CaO(s)+CO_2(g)

Balanced Equation: CaCO_3(s)\rightarrow CaO(s)+CO_2(g)

  • For D:

Group 2 hydroxides, when heated forms oxide and water vapor.

Skeleton Equation: Ca(OH)_2\rightarrow CaO+H_2O

Balanced Equation: Ca(OH)_2\rightarrow CaO+H_2O
