Missing question: NH3, CH3COOH, HNO3, HCl, CsOH, H2CO3, H2SO4, Ca(OH)2, HI, HCN, H2CO3.

Strong acids: HNO₃(nitric acid), HBr (hydrobromic acid), HCl(hydrochloric acid), H₂SO₄(sulfuric acid), HI(hydroiodic acid).

Weak acids:CH₃COOH(acetic acid), HF(hydrofluoric acid), H₂CO₃(carbonic acid), HCN(cyanic acid)

Strong bases: CsOH(cesium hydroxide), Ca(OH)₂(calcium hydroxide).

Weak bases: NH₃(ammonia).

Strong acids (and bases) are those which completely dissociate in water to form H+ (or OH- in the case of bases) ions

for example if HA is a strong acid, then the dissociation will be represented as:

HA → H+ + A-

Weak acids ( and bases) are those which only undergo partial dissociation such that there is an equilibrium between the dissociated and undissociated forms.

For example if HA were a weak acid then:

HA ↔ H+ + A-

In the given examples:

1) HNO3, nitric acid is a strong acid

HNO3 → H+ + NO3-

2) HBr, hydrobromic acid is a strong acid

HBr → H+ + Br-

3) HF, hydrofluoric acid is a weak acid

HF ↔ H+ + F-

4) H2CO3, carbonic acid is a weak diprotic acid

H2CO3 ↔ H+ + HCO3-

HCO3- ↔ H+ + CO3²⁻

A. Indicate whether the following descriptions refer to electrolytes or to non-electrolytes.
Leokris [45]

Answer:

1.non electrolytes

2.electrolytes

3.non electrolytes

4.electrolytes

5.electrolytes

6.electrolytes

Explanation:

electrolytes are substance in their molten form which can be decomposed by the passage of electricity exay includes acids, base and salts etc were as non electrolytes cannot be decomposed by the passage of electricity example alcohol, sugar organic solvents etc. Electrolytes in the body like potassium, sodium in their molten form helps to keep the electrical circuitry of the heart well

what is an empirical formulaWhat is the percent composition by mass of nitrogen in (NH4)2CO3 (gram-formula mass = 96.0 g/mol)?
Margarita [4]

Answer:

Percentage composition = 14.583%

Explanation:

In chemistry, the emprical formular of a compound is the simplest formular a compound can have. It shows the simplest ratio in which the elements are combined in the compound.

Percentage composition by mass of Nitrogen

Nitrogen = 14g/mol

In one mole of the compound;

Mass of Nitrogen = 1 mol * 14g/mol = 14g

Mass of compound = 1 mol * 96.0 g/mol = 96

Percentage composition of Nitrogen = (Mass of Nitrogen / Mass of compound) * 100

percentage composition = 14/96 * 100

Percentage composition = 0.14583 * 100

Percentage composition = 14.583%
