How many total atoms are in 0.170 g of p2o5?

Chemistry

7.20594 x 10^20

First you must determine how many moles of P3O5 you have. This is done by using the formula
Number of moles (n) = mass in grams of substance (m) /divided by/ Molar mass (M) [this is the sum of the atomic mass of all atoms in the compound]

n = 0.170 / P (31 x 2) + O (16 x 5)
n = 0.170 / 142
n = 0.001197 moles

Then you use avagadros number 6.02 x10^23 this is the number of atoms in one mole of any substance. Since you have 0.001197 moles you multiply the number of moles by avagadros number

0.001197 x (6.02 x 10^23)
= 7.20594 x 10^20 atoms

What is the entropy change for freezing 2.71 g of C2H5OH at 158.7 K? ∆H = −4600 J/mol. Answer in units of J/K.
Ira Lisetskai [31]

Answer:

-1.71 J/K

Explanation:

To solve this problem we use the formula

ΔS = n*ΔH/T

Where n is mol, ΔH is enthalpy and T is temperature.

ΔH and T are already given by the problem, so now we calculate n:

Molar Mass C₂H₅OH = 46 g/mol

2.71 g C₂H₅OH ÷ 46g/mol = 0.0589 mol

Now we calculate ΔS:

ΔS = 0.0589 mol * −4600 J/mol / 158.7 K

ΔS = -1.71 J/K

How do atoms and elements differ from each other?
strojnjashka [21]

Answer:

A particular atom will have the same number of protons and electrons and most atoms have at least as many neutrons as protons. An element is a substance that is made entirely from one type of atom. For example, the element hydrogen is made from atoms containing just one proton and one electron.
