Due to limited land availability in South America, the South American people had to deforest the land to make more space. It promoted limited economic growth after the Second World War when South American countries took advantage of the tropical climate to grow fruits and other foods grown only in their region.
For example, Brazil has a coffee-based economy. This means that South American countries have not been able to develop as economically as the US has done for a long time.
