Different explanations that lead to the same result

-You need to substract the number of protons from the mass number.

-Mass number - atomic number= number of protons

-Following this  equation:

CARBON

atomic number= 6

mass number= 12

mass number= protons + neutrons

12= 6 + x

x= 12-6

x= 6

A compound is 40% carbon, 6.7% hydrogen, and 53.3% oxygen. What is the empirical formula? (4 points)
Elis [28]

Answer:

CH2O

Explanation:

Dividing by the atomic masses:

40 / 12 = 3.333

6.7 / 1 = 6.7

53.3 / 16 = 3.331

The ratios are

3.333/ 3.333 : 6.7 / 3.333 : 3.331/3.333

= 1:2:1.

So it is CH2O.

What is the coefficient for O2 in the balanced version of the following chemical equation: C2H4+O2→CO2+H2O
andriy [413]

Answer:

3

Explanation:

Here's the balanced equation;

C2H4 + 3O2 → 2CO2 + 2H2O

C ⇒2                          C ⇒1 x 2 = 2

H ⇒4                          H ⇒2 x 2 = 4

O ⇒3 x 2 = 6             O ⇒ (2 x 2) + (2 x 1) = 6
