Answer:

[OH] = 6.31 * 10^-7 M

Explanation:

Mathematically;

pH + pOH = 14

Mathematically;

pH = -log [H3O+]

also;

pOH = -log [OH]

From the question; [H3O+] = 1.75 * 10^-8 M

pH = -log [1.75 * 10^-8]

pH = 7.76

since pH is normally given to 1 decimal place

we can say pH = 7.8

Now;

pH + pOH = 14

pOH = 14-7.8

pOH = 6.2

now pOH = -log [OH]

[OH] = -antilog 6.2

[OH] = 6.31 * 10^-7 M

When water reaches the metastable state, the phase of water will be?
Jet001 [13]

Answer:

water, when the metastable state is reached, is cooled below the zero temperature. It freezes abruptly. this is called metastable. They are not at equilibrium per se; as at negative temperatures the only equilibrium state of water is ice.

Naphthalene, commonly found in moth balls, is composed of 93.7% carbon and 6.3% hydrogen. The molar mass of naphthalene is 128 g
Vikki [24]

Answer:

Molecular formula naphthalene → C₁₀H₈

Empirical formula naphthalene → C₅H₄

Explanation:

Centesimal composition means that in 100 g of compound we have x g of the element. Therefore in 100 g of naphthalene we have:

93.7 g of C

6.3 g of H

Let's make a rule of three:

In 100 g of naphthalene we have 93.7 g of C  and 6.3 g of H

In 128 g of naphthalene we would have:

128 . 93.7 / 100 = 120 g of C

128.  6.3 / 100 = 8 g of H

We convert the mass to moles, by molar mass:

120 g . 1mol / 12 g = 10 moles C

8 g . 1mol/ 1g = 8 moles H

Molecular formula naphthalene → C₁₀H₈

Empirical formula naphthalene → C₅H₄

If an element has an atomic number of 8 and an atomic mass number of 18, would it be an isotope? Why or why not?
hoa [83]

Answer:

It would be an isotope.

Background Information:

Isotopes are typically elements that have a different number of protons than neutrons. The atomic mass is the total number of protons and neutrons. The atomic number is the number of protons.

Explanation:

If the atomic number is the number of protons that means that this particular element has 8 protons. If the atomic mass is the total number of protons and neutrons then we can simply take away the amount of protons from that number, 18 - 8 = 10. If we take protons away from the number of protons and neutrons we are left with the number of neutrons. So there are 10 neutrons. Because there are 8 protons and 10 neutrons, or a different amount of neutrons and protons we know that this particular atom is an isotope.
