According to Hasselbach-Henderson equation:

pH=pK_{a}+log\frac{[A^{-}]}{[HA]}

Here, [A^{-}] is concentration of conjugate base and [HA] is concentration of acid.

In the given problem, conjugate base is CH_{3}COOK and acid is CH_{3}COOH thus, Hasselbach-Henderson equation will be as follows:

pH=pK_{a}+log\frac{[CH_{3}COOK]}{[CH_{3}COOH]}...... (1)

(a) Ratio of concentration of potassium acetate and acetic acid is 2:1 thus,

\frac{[CH_{3}COOK]}{[CH_{3}COOH]}=2

Also, pK_{a}=4.76

Putting the values in equation (1),

pH=4.76+log\frac{2}{1}=5.06

Therefore, pH of solution is 5.06.

(b) Ratio of concentration of potassium acetate and acetic acid is 1:3 thus,

\frac{[CH_{3}COOK]}{[CH_{3}COOH]}=\frac{1}{3}

Also, pK_{a}=4.76

Putting the values in equation (1),

pH=4.76+log\frac{1}{3}=4.28

Therefore, pH of solution is 4.28.

(c)Ratio of concentration of potassium acetate and acetic acid is 5:1 thus,

\frac{[CH_{3}COOK]}{[CH_{3}COOH]}=\frac{5}{1}

Also, pK_{a}=4.76

Putting the values in equation (1),

pH=4.76+log\frac{5}{1}=5.45

Therefore, pH of solution is 5.45.

(d) Ratio of concentration of potassium acetate and acetic acid is 1:1 thus,

\frac{[CH_{3}COOK]}{[CH_{3}COOH]}=1

Also, pK_{a}=4.76

Putting the values in equation (1),

pH=4.76+log\frac{1}{1}=4.76

Therefore, pH of solution is 4.76.

(e) Ratio of concentration of potassium acetate and acetic acid is 1:10 thus,

\frac{[CH_{3}COOK]}{[CH_{3}COOH]}=\frac{1}{10}

Also, pK_{a}=4.76

Putting the values in equation (1),

pH=4.76+log\frac{1}{10}=3.76

Therefore, pH of solution is 3.76.

If the atomic number of an element is 8 and the mass number is 16, the number of neutrons in an atom of that element is what? (s
Serjik [45]

Answer:

8.

Explanation:

Atomic number tells us the number of protons in an element. Mass number is the total amount of mass in an atom, and it comes from the sum of the mass of protons and neutrons, which are both considered to have a mass of 1 amu.

If the total mass is 16amu and 8amu comes from the 8 protons, the remaining mass comes from neutrons.

16 - 8 = 8

Which of the following statements correctly explains the motion of atoms and molecules within the different states of matter? *
sineoko [7]

Answer:

The correct answer is : The particles within all three states of matter are constantly moving.

Explanation:

The particles in the solid, liquid and gaseous states are in motion. In the latter is where they present greater movement and high kinetic energy, then follow the liquid state and finally the solid where the movement is more restricted (in this case, the particles vibrate).

Which properties are characteristic of group 2 elements at stp
Sindrei [870]

At <span>standard temperature and pressure, these elements have very similar properties; they are all shiny, silvery-white, semi-reactive metals that have industrial and biological applications. The Alkaline Earth Metals are elements of group 2 of the periodic table, which includes beryllium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, barium, and radium. Moreover, group 2 elements are   nonmetallic substances that are insoluble in water and heat resistant in nature.</span>

Read the descriptions below of two substances and an experiment on each. Decide whether the result of the experiment tells you t
d1i1m1o1n [39]

Answer:

Both sample A and B are mixtures .

Explanation:

Sample A

The given sample has density of .77 g / ml and a component of sample that is separated from vaporization has different density of 1.04 g / mL . From this density it appears that it is water . So sample a appears to be a mixture of water and another matter having lesser density and it is water soluble .

Sample B

It is also a mixture . One component is soluble in water and the other black component is not soluble in water . The soluble component gets dissolved in water and get separated and filtered out . The insoluble part remains stuck to filter paper .
