What motivated arrhenius to calculate how changes in carbon dioxide might affect the climate?

Chemistry

Arrhenius was seeking to understand the causes of ice ages.
He was the first to use basic principles of  physical chemistry to calculate estimates of the extent to which increases in atmosphere carbon dioxide increases Earth's surface temperature through the Arrhenius effect. Arrhenius's paper was the first to quantify the contribution of carbon dioxide to the greenhouse effect and to speculate whether variations in the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide have contributed to long-term variations in climate.

Alpha helices are a type of secondary structure in proteins. What is the length of a 27.0 kDa single‑stranded α‑helical protein
iogann1982 [59]

Answer : The  length of protein will be, 36.8 A⁰

Explanation :

First we have to calculate the amino acid residue.

\text{Amino acid residue}=\frac{\text{Length of single strand of protein}}{\text{Mean residue mass}}

Given:

Length of single strand of protein = 27.0 kDa

Mean residue mass = 110 Da

\text{Amino acid residue}=\frac{27.0kDa}{110Da}=\frac{27000Da}{110Da}=245.4

Now we have to calculate the number of turns in protein.

\text{Number of turns in protein}=\frac{\text{Amino acid residue}}{3.6\text{amino acid per turn of the alpha-helix}}

As there are 3.6 amino acid per turn of the alpha-helix.

\text{Number of turns in protein}=\frac{245.4}{3.6}=68.17

Now we have to calculate the length of the protein.

\text{Length of protein}=\text{Number of turns in protein}\times \text{Length of each turn}

As, we know that the length of each turn = 0.54 A⁰

\text{Length of protein}=68.17turns\times 0.54\AA=36.8\AA

Thus, the length of protein will be, 36.8 A⁰

A sample of oxygen gas occupies a volume of 229.5 mL at 762.7 torr pressure. What volume in mL will it occupy at 704.5 torr pres
Fed [463]

Answer:

248.4 mL

Explanation:

In order to answer this problem we can use <em>Boyle's law</em>, which states that at a constant composition:

  • P₁V₁ = P₂V₂

Where in this case:

  • P₁ = 762.7 torr
  • V₁ = 229.5 mL
  • P₂ = 704.5 torr
  • V₂ = ?

We <u>input the data</u>:

  • 762.7 torr * 229.5 mL = 704.5 torr * V₂

And <u>solve for V₂</u>:

  • V₂ = 248.4 mL

What materials formed the solar system?
Paha777 [63]

Scientists believe that the solar system was formed when a cloud of gas and dust in space was disturbed, maybe by the explosion of a nearby star(called a supernova). This explosion made waves in space which squeezed the cloud of gas and dust.
