∵ The equation of the population is 10.0 y - 4.55 x = 581

∵ y = 71.75

∴ 10.0(71.75) - 4.55 x = 581

∴ 717.5 - 4.55 x = 581

- Subtract 717.5 from both sides

∴ - 4.55 x = - 136.5

- Divide both sides by - 4.55

∴ x = 30

∵ x represents the number of years after 2000

∵ 2000 + 30 = 2030

∴ In year 2030 the population is predicted to be 71.75 million
