A physics major is working to pay his college tuition by performing in a traveling carnival. He rides a motorcycle inside a holl

ow transparent plastic sphere. After gaining sufficient speed, he travels in a vertical circle with a radius of 14.6 m . The physics major has a mass of 70.0 kg , and his motorcycle has a mass of 40.0 kg. (a) What minimum speed must he have at the top of thecircle if the tires of the motorcycle are not to lose contact withthe sphere?
m/s
(b) At the bottom of the circle, his speed is twice the valuecalculated in part (a). What is the magnitude of the normal forceexerted on the motorcycle by the sphere at this point?

Answer:

a) v=23.9 m/s

b) R=2646 N

Explanation:

According to Newton's second law the net force at the top is given by

∑F=-m*ac

according to

a_{c}=\frac{v^2}{r}

∑F=-m*\frac{v^2}{r}

a).

To lose contact this means that R=0 so the final equation is

R-m*g=-m*\frac{v^2}{r}

-m*g=-m*\frac{v^2}{r}

Solve to v

v^2=g*r

v=\sqrt{g*r}=\sqrt{9.8*14.6}

v=11.96\frac{m}{s}

b).

v is the twice of part a so

v=2*11.96

v=23.9\frac{m}{s}

R_{m}-m_{m}*g-m_{p}=m*\frac{v^2}{r}

Solve to Rm

R_{m}=m*\frac{v^2}{r}+(m_{m}+m_{p})*g

R_{m}=m*\frac{23.9^2}{14.6}+(40+70)*9.8

R_{m}=2646 N

A toy rocket, launched from the ground, rises vertically with an acceleration of 28 m/s 2 for 9.7 s until its motor stops. Disre
vredina [299]

Answer:

5080.86m

Explanation:

We will divide the problem in parts 1 and 2, and write the equation of accelerated motion with those numbers, taking the upwards direction as positive. For the first part, we have:

y_1=y_{01}+v_{01}t+\frac{a_1t^2}{2}

v_1=v_{01}+a_1t

We must consider that it's launched from the ground (y_{01}=0m) and from rest (v_{01}=0m/s), with an upwards acceleration a_{1}=28m/s^2 that lasts a time t=9.7s.

We calculate then the height achieved in part 1:

y_1=(0m)+(0m/s)t+\frac{(28m/s^2)(9.7s)^2}{2}=1317.26m

And the velocity achieved in part 1:

v_1=(0m/s)+(28m/s^2)(9.7s)=271.6m/s

We do the same for part 2, but now we must consider that the initial height is the one achieved in part 1 (y_{02}=1317.26m) and its initial velocity is the one achieved in part 1 (v_{02}=271.6m/s), now in free fall, which means with a downwards acceleration a_{2}=-9,8m/s^2. For the data we have it's faster to use the formula v_f^2=v_0^2+2ad, where d will be the displacement, or difference between maximum height and starting height of part 2, and the final velocity at maximum height we know must be 0m/s, so we have:

v_{02}^2+2a_2(y_2-y_{02})=v_2^2=0m/s

Then, to get y_2, we do:

2a_2(y_2-y_{02})=-v_{02}^2

y_2-y_{02}=-\frac{v_{02}^2}{2a_2}

y_2=y_{02}-\frac{v_{02}^2}{2a_2}

And we substitute the values:

y_2=y_{02}-\frac{v_{02}^2}{2a_2}=(1317.26m)-\frac{(271.6m/s)^2}{2(-9.8m/s^2)}=5080.86m

A single-slit diffraction pattern is formed by monochromatic electromagnetic radiation from a distant source passing through a s
tatiyna

Answer:

a. λ = 647.2 nm

b. I₀  9.36 x 10⁻⁵

Explanation:

Given:

β = 56.0 rad , θ = 3.09 ° , γ = 0.170 mm = 0.170 x 10⁻³ m

a.

The wavelength of the radiation can be find using

β = 2 π / γ * sin θ

λ = [ 2π * γ * sin θ ] / β

λ = [ 2π * 0.107 x 10⁻³m * sin (3.09°) ] / 56.0 rad

λ = 647.14 x 10⁻⁹ m  ⇒  λ = 647.2 nm

b.

The intensity of the central maximum I₀

I = I₀ (4 / β² ) * sin ( β / 2)²

I = I₀ (4 / 56.0²) * [ sin (56.0 /2) ]²

I = I₀  9.36 x 10⁻⁵
