Meteoroids are debris in space.
They become meteors when they pass through the earth's atmosphere, but burn up.
A meteorite is when it lands on the surface of the earth.

When in space it is a meteorite. When it is entering the atmosphere, it is a meteor. When it hits the earth it;s classified as a meteoroid.
