Answer:

Closed system

Explanation:

In order to do this, let's remember the concepts of an open, closed and isolated system.

Open system: Any matter and heat can enter or leave the system.

Closed system: any matter cannot enter or leave the system, however heat can enter or leave the system.

Isolated system: neither matter nor heat can enter or leave the system.

Now, an open system cannot be, cause the flask is sealed at the top with a balloon, so matter cannot escape the system.

Now, in general terms, an erlenmeyer flask is not insulated to prevent that any heat or energy can be transfered, hence, the system, even with the balloon to prevent any escape of the gaseous product, it can still transfer heat or energy to the medium. This can be verified by touching the balloon or flask, therefore, is a closed system.

How many grams of mercury can be produced if 18.0 g of mercury (11) oxide decomposes?
NARA [144]

Answer:

18.0 g of mercury (11) oxide decomposes to produce 9.0 grams of mercury

Explanation:

Mercury oxide has molar mass of 216.6 g/ mol. It gas a molecular formula of HgO.

The decomposition of mercury oxide is given by the chemical equation below:

2HgO ----> 2Hg + O₂

2 moles of HgO decomposes to produce 1 mole of Hg

2 moles of HgO has a mass of 433.2 g

433.2 g of HgO produces 216.6 g of Hg

18.0 of HgO will produce 18 × 216.6/433.2 g of Hg = 9.0 g of Hg

Therefore, 18.0 g of mercury (11) oxide decomposes to produce 9.0 grams of mercury

How much heat is required to change the temperature of a 15 g aluminum can with 100 g of water from 24.5°C to 55°C?
Assoli18 [71]
Heat capacity of aluminium = 0.900 J/g°C
While heat capacity of water = 4.186 J/g°C
Heat = heat gained by water + heat gained by aluminium
Heat gained by water = 100 × 4.186 × 30.5
                                   = 12767.3 Joules
Heat gained by aluminium = 15 × 0.9 × 30.5
                                          = 411.75 Joules
Heat required = 13179.05 Joules or 13.179 kJoules
